Big Money Liberal Donor Successfully Petitions US Government To Destroy BC Jobs.

SomeDollarsAreDarkerThan
OthersVille

Weyerhaeuser is an American forest products company.

In the last 11 plus years Weyerhaeuser proper has donated more than $230,000 dollars to the BC Liberal Party:

Last fall Weyerhaeuser petitioned the US government to kill forest company jobs in British Columbia (see pg 10 of pdf):

And, today, Weyerhaeuser's wishes came true.

Allegedly:

U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday he would impose a 20 percent tariff on Canadian softwood lumber, according to a White House official and two people present when he made the comment at a reception for conservative journalists...

Now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but....

I'm pretty sure the Steelworkers have never done such a thing.

_______
For the record, Weyerhaeuser has given less than 10% of the BCL amount to the provincial Dippers over the same period.
Tip O' The Toque to Dipper Oppo guy Tim Howlett for the heads-up on the Twittmachine.

Razzle-dazzle, it's gotta be. Risky, though: doesn't take much to reveal the hypochristy. And then of course the BC Liberals compare very poorly.

You said you were going to cut back on Election Postings, and you have.

If you hadn't made that promise this year what would be the number of posts?

Is there a greater awareness on the part of the Public which has chosen to not just focus on Christy, but the issues that are real?

Well well, how in-Canadian or In-British Columbian can you get.

This is the kind of "kick back" you get from political donors, who have no interest in anything else but money, and don't care how they get it.

Nice Job BC Liebrals, lets make the employment problem go from bad to dismal in a single day, for the logging industry.

Jobs, jobs, jobs eh? This is the "nail" in the coffin for these Liebral clowns.

Wonder who is the next donor, to sink more of our economy?

Thanks Christy,, your has been, your best before date has long since expired.

Considering Weyerhaeuser still has three sawmills in Canada, I wonder what their motivation is for wanting to further nail Canadian lumber producers with an even higher and more crippling softwood lumber tariff than the previous tariff. The cynic in me thinks that Weyerhaeuser wants to ship the 13.9 million acres of crown forest they control stretching across four provinces, to the states in the form of raw logs.
I would also like to know if Canfor, which Jimmy Pattison is a major share holder, also lobbied the tRump administration to slap a healthy tariff on Canadian softwood lumber since Canfor now owns something like 12 sawmills across the line.

Anon-above:

The reason the US firms want to shiv Canadian lumber is because they want our logs.

A lot of companies - including West Fraser and Canfor - have significant holdings in the US. Even with the cost of shipping, they can make more money by having those logs exported raw to their US mills, where they can be milled by lower-wage workers.

Hewers of wood indeed.

perhaps Trump is imposing the duty to pay for his wall between the U.S.A. and Mexico. who knows. last time the duty was imposed the Americans collected $4 or $5 billion.

What Canada could do is simply not send anything south in the form of logs or lumber. The federal government could pay the workers their salary and wait for the Americans to cave. Cave they will. The added cost of building homes will impact quite quickly. turns out the American builders work on a smaller margin than Canadian developers. The increased cost of building a house would be approx. $3,600. and that would put a lot of house builders out of business and increase the cost of home ownership. Of course I don't expect Canada to do any such thing, but it would be fun

Perhaps it is time for Canada to phone those 35 American govenors and remind them how much they export to Canada, Trump doesn't seem to know or care.

Christy's been waiting because she thought the Donald was going to build his wall with wood and she had some leverage.
