Fox News: Why They (Keep On) Doing The (Terrible) Things They Do.

TheEvilsOfRogerAiles'
BanalitiesVille

So.

Why, exactly, does Fox News keep pumping toxic effluent into the eye sockets and earholes of its viewers, 24/7?

Because, as Michael Grynbaum of the New York Times reports, this:

...In June and July, Fox News was the highest-rated television channel in the prime-time hours of 8 to 11 p.m. Not just on cable. Not just among news networks. All of television. The average live Fox News viewership in those hours outstripped cable rivals like CNN, MSNBC and ESPN, as well as the broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC, according to Nielsen...

Look.

I fully understand the demographics when it comes to those folks that still get their 'news' from the TeeVee.

But, still...

I suspect there’s a ‘know-thine-enemy’ and a ‘can’t-look-away’ aspect to these ratings. A more accurate reading would measure what proportion of viewers actually believe what they see on Fox, or to what extent.

With the pre-dominance of hyper-partisan, nose-thumbing absurdity and self-congratulatory venality-signalling on the right, it’s quite likely the factual value of Fox content is considered irrelevant for comprehenders and miscomprehenders alike.

Still others want more that to be galled, appalled or enthralled by awesomely shocking interpretations of current events: they want to understand what’s happening to the world around them—it’s a commutative lament of ancient lineage as in: if you need any more proof the world is going to the dogs, just look around.

Personally, I don’t think the world is going to pot anymore that it has been...but we could pilpul about tense.

If there was only one right wing network and one centre left/left network Fox would be crushed. Plus any one show that "wins" the ratings is maybe 3 million people. There are several Youtubers that pull in those numbers constantly.

Why Wikipedia Decided to Stop Calling Fox a ‘Reliable’ Source
https://www.wired.com/story/why-wikipedia-decided-to-stop-calling-fox-a-reliable-source/

"In an aggressive move that is anything but sitting back, a panel of Wikipedia administrators in July declared that Fox News would no longer be considered “generally reliable” in its reporting on politics and science, and in those areas “should be used with caution to verify contentious claims.” (Fox News articles on other topics were unaffected.) There simply were too many examples of misleading, inaccurate, and slanted reporting about science and politics for Wikipedia to pass on Fox News articles as part of a broader search for the truth."
