I don't know about you but, personally, I'm still waiting for the puffed-up punditry down south, and that includes those superfine never Trump Republicans at the Bulwark, to open up the memory hole in the back of their collective heads and pull out the following, written by West Wing guy Aaron Sorkin on the OpEd page of the New York Times back in July:

...The problem in the real world is that there isn’t a Democrat who is polling significantly better than Mr. Biden. And quitting, as heroic as it may be in this case, doesn’t really put a lump in our throats. But there’s something the Democrats can do that would not just put a lump in people’s throats with its appeal to stop-Donald-Trump-at-all-costs unity, but with its originality and sense of sacrifice. So here’s my pitch to the writers’ room: The Democratic Party should pick a Republican. At their convention next month, the Democrats should nominate Mitt Romney...
I mean, can't you just imagine good old Tim Miller and/or David Brooks feasting on that one?
To which I would answer now, just as I screamed at the Sulzberger family's pixel screen back in the summer...

Oh, Biden would have lost the election big time, he was an honourable man, well past his "best buy" date, but as the Americans are inbred racists, a black women president was a non starter.
ReplyDeleteAs Trump is turning the USA into 1930's Germany the so called Democratic party will dissolve like our NDP, because populist governments tend to destroy all opposition to remain "popular".
The USA has been built on a "big lie" of being the land of the free and that is about to be given the toss, instead it was the land built on cheap or even slave labour, something Herr Drumph remains somewhat ignorant of.
The age of "black jobs" is long gone, but it is now the age of cheap Latino jobs, many being fulfilled by illegal migrants, who are willing to work for pennies in unsafe conditions to provide the food on American tables.
The Americans have made their choice; Trump is assembling his "Brown-shirt army" and if we had any smart politcans in Ottawa, which we don't, we would close the borders once again and make it a lot harder for Canadians to cross for cheap groceries and gas. Dare I say "Exit visas" or banning cross border scholarships so Canadian kids are fed into the American collegiate sport meat grinder?
Canadians have grown lazy and fat since our ancestors showed their moral fortitude and fought against a cancerous tyranny 86 years ago and sadly, the moral fortitude no longer exists and Canada with nary a whimper most Canadians will join with the Mango Mussolini cult down south.
Oh Anonymous, please reveal yourself, for I wish to hear more from you. A handle, to grab, to hold on to, not to far into the future, for I can't stand the pain of trump right now
ReplyDeleteOh, the secret service might get on to me and I might end up in Trumpian gulag.
Delete@ Anon.
ReplyDeleteThere has not been an honorable US president since Jimmy Carter and I don't expect one soon.
The US has the best presidents money can buy.
The Democrats spent $1 billion trying to elect Harris, goodness knows how much the GOP spent!
Money well spent?
I think not.

On the subject of Jimmy Carter, you are correct and if anyone deserves a Nobel Peace Prize it is him because of his charitable efforts.
DeleteOther US presidents well, not so much. Nixon, Reagan, Clinton were, not honourable, with Nixon, bordering on treasonous behavior.
American elections are a money fest, nothing more and one Mr. Musk will probably get 10 fold the money on his investment in Trump, hell, i would dance on a stage for that!

ReplyDeleteYou mean you don't think Mitt....errr...Jed Bartlet can save them (and us)?
.
I think we are doomed. I am watching old civil defense announcements on You Tube. I am afraid the Mango Mussolini will start a nuclear war not know what a nuclear was is.
DeleteAny guy who wants the American Army to shoot protesters on the street and more is a tad unstable.
Always liked Carter. He had a kindness about him. His work for Habitat for Humanity really helped in a practical way. Recall when he came to Winnipeg with Habitat for Humanity and helped build a house. There he was, working with the rest of the crew making life better for a Canadian family. It was reported that some times his Secret Service guards would also take off their jackets and join in. Most retired Presidents went on to make more money based on the fact they'd been President. Carter and his family simply returned to their lives. He taught Sunday school at his local church, spoke with people.
ReplyDeleteWhen the forest fires in B.C. started, along with the one in Fort McMurray the sibling said, they were glad they had lived when they did, they got to see the country and parts of the world which were still beautiful". She did not want to be around for the impending enviornmental disasters or the political ones. .
When we were kids, there was a radio program about the Holocaust and the speaker mentioned, "Never Again". Our Mom looked at us and said its not 'Never Again". Its this can always happen again. We did take note and here we are, going down the same road, well not Canada at this time but the U.S.A. and the invasion of Ukraine. Different players same old shit.
Do not think bad things can't happen to you during "political upheaval". It can. Your neighbours can turn on you. Your relatives can join the opposition and stand by as you are dragged away to your death, yes it can all happen. It happened all over Europe and they were a civilized people also.
