The Fisking.

Of Keith Baldrey's latest continues over at the very fine 'Tidal Station'.

In my opinion, the most important bit of deconstruction goes as follows:

Perhaps the most egregious line in Mr. Baldry's piece is this:
The most recent crash will be investigated and perhaps lessons will be learned from it and that will be that (until the next serious hard landing or accident).
Cavalier and dismissive. 14 people killed on or by BC Ferries? Corollary damage. They'll never be any better than what they are. You could be next.

I don't see Keith Baldry being consulted on maritime safety anytime soon.

That is all.

For now.

Odd how the management of our ferries, which serve a minority of our citizenry, ends up being the metaphor provincial governments are so heavily associated with.

Interesting point Beer--

Maybe it's because the ferries are were the citizens most directly interact with stuff they have already bought and paid for already and are still taking a massive hit on re: user fees.

Imagine, if you will, if you were forced to pay $23.50 each time you crossed the Port Mann.

And, if you wanted to make sure you got across today you had to pay an extra $3.75 for a 'reservation' fee.

Sounds like Kieth Baldry is about to the first promoter of a second Sea to Sky Highway, this time going from Squamish to Gibson and the Sunshine Coast, thereby eliminating the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale run altogether.
Its going to be another one of those BC Liberal $600 million "Upgrades", going from a logging road to a four lane highway, paid for by one of those P3 Shadow Taxes over 30 years.

Upgrade Everything!

(and then bail, with golden parachute intact, a la Mr. Hahn, just before the bills come due)
