The Griftwood Chronicles, Vol. 4....The Distraction.

WhatShe
WorryVille

Well, well, well, whady'a know.

Our fine premier has decided to stop taking her personal grift.

Kinda/sorta, because NDP something, something, something:

...Clark says she’s changing the way she’ll claim money from the BC Liberals.

“What I’ve asked the party to do instead is let’s get rid of it. And then let’s do what I think all party leaders should do. And I would encourage the NDP to do this as well. Which is ask instead for reimbursable expenses.”...

So.

Why did the good Ms. Clark decide to lay-off her little big money-driven side deal, at least the part that is straight up cash?

Hmmmm....

Is it possible she's come to realize that it is morally and ethically wrong?

Of course not.

How do I know this?

Because of what she herself actually said:

...On Friday night the Premier called the stipend a distraction...

Words (and salads) fail me.

________
And, make no mistake, this $50K per year that doesn't even cover Ms. Clark's new 'rent' in downtown Quilchena is the least of this.
The real moral of this story?...Concerted press coverage matters, no matter what Mr. Obvious of Neepsend has to say (over and over and over and over again, including in his latest...see if you can spot it)

She, the Premier of the Province of British Columbia IS the LEADER of the BC Liberal Party, she tells 'them' what to do, she doesn't beg, she doesn't ask.

How about this. The BC Liberals should donate all their accumulated election war chest funds and donate it to care for the MOST Vulnerable of society but the BC Liberal Party members are only interested in raping and pillaging British Columbians to gain another four years of power and reward their friends and themselves.

My take on who "they" are?

Gary Mason...trying to save face. Still writing with a slant though...I take it his version of the truth or what he needs to report on is the norm in the MSM.

Too bad they were all shown up (MSM reporters that is) by a younger investigative journalist from out of town. I bet he keeps on digging in the treasure chest of BC corruption. If I were an eager journalist with bosses in another country I would have a hay day. He is making a name for himself.

I guess 4th place is good enough for Gary and crew. Sooner or later people start to pay attention to all the slanted talk...the curse of an incumbent, politician and reporter.

I wonder if the $50,000 payment for 2017 had already been paid before this announcement was made?

Grumps, she has never been the effective leader of this party. She's just more palatable than deJong, whose dishonest, unethical, immoral stench has been wending its way through the party and government of BC since BC Rail. His alleged profession and conduct may have barred him from justice ministries/lawyering ever again ... but fortunately for him he has no profession to disbar him at Finance, a situation from which he takes full advantage to run run/drain the province's accounts the way he does.

I would also addend, murderous ways, in memorial to Rod MacIssac suspiciously directly, too many others like Nick Lang.

EG--

As Bob Mackin points out, we will likely never know given that the BC Liberal party is a private entity and thus is not subject to FOIR. And, given that, who knows if the stipend will actually stop.

What I would like to know is why some enterprising proMedia member has not asked the party what 'expenses' she is being reimbursed for right now (i.e. on top of the $50K per annum). Would anyone be surprised if it turned out to include the rent on a second Lotuslandian home?

Is such a question out of line? Normally, it might be. But when you are living in Distractobribostan such questions must be asked.

The real issue with Ron Obvious' latest is that it would appear he has an issue with NYT piece getting all this attention given that the facts were already out there. Of course he totally misses the point that Mr. Levin of the Times actually connected the dots between the big money donations and the resulting actions by the Clarklandians.

Which, of course, is the real issue here.

I'm confused: which is the distraction? The stipend Christy says "is becoming" one, or the announcement that Christy recommends the NDP take a lesson from her putting a "stop" to this practice.

Will Premier / Leader Christy Clark show up with her photo op entourage, including RCMP security, for Vancouver Chinatown's New Year celebrations in light of her government having put a 'head tax' on foreigners to cool down the real estate market?

It would also be interesting to look at the tax implications for the Premier relative to changing the 'treatment' of her top-up cash.

On the face of it, if the $50G per annum is 'salary' or bonus it would be included in the calculation of her taxable income and, as such, attract income tax at or near the top marginal rate...therefore, assuming she pays nearly the top rate for her normal salary as premier the additional money would (at least in part) attract tax at the rate of 47.70% (which applies to all ordinary taxable income amounts in excess of $202,800).

Treating the bonus as a reimbursable expense is a much better deal for Ms Clark...one wonders if that consideration might not have played a part in her decision?

John's Aghast said...

Just what 'expenses' is she not getting reimbursed for now? I'm willing to bet that all her expenses, including her daytrips to Kelowna, Haida Gwaii, China, India,, her limo, her heli-jet jaunts back and forth across the Salish Sea are all reimbursed. I'd Hazard a guess that her indigenous costumes and saris are also reimbursable too. Just what expenses might she incur that are NOT reimbursable?

If you have $5,000 sitting around and don't know what to do with it, you could have some one-on-one time with B.C. Premier Christy Clark.

Somewhere in Kelowna on Thursday, Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna, will host a pricey private fundraising dinner, The Vancouver Province reports.

The paper cites leaked emails about the event: "An outstanding dinner experience," as Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick described it.

Poor folks like myself can`t afford to go.

if she expenses her rent in Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna she will rake in much more than $50K. then she can have her "land lords" donate part of the rent back to the party.

If she expenses her wardrobe, expect to see a huge increase in that also. nice way around it. yes its just a distraction. people won't focus on all the wonderful, marvelous things she is doing. Sort of reminds me of Trump. the Americans have him, we've got her.

It would be so much fun if some one actually found out where one of those private "dinners" were being held and show up with a couple of dozen people living on Christy's idea of an adequate income for the disabled and children. See if they get through the door or get any food. With a few cameras it could be a fun news event. hey the media knew when the RCMP would be at Glen Clark's house so why not find out where Crhsity is going to be with those "soirees". Actually those "soiree's" remind me of Trump Turnip's nominee for the Education Cabinet post. her family donated $200M to the republicans and is in the private school business. I want to know how much some of those attendees are getting for their "donations". At one time Norm Farrell had a list up of those appointed to B.C. boards by Christy and what they had donated to the B.C. Lieberals. it worked out to about the same in lots of cases.

Graft, Corruption, Coal, Gambling, politicians. when you type that in, you get a lot of Alabama political blogs. We don't have to do that in B.C. We get Christy Clark. Wonder when Chrsity and her B.C. Lieberals will start the voter suppression they have in Alabama. if people actually come out and vote in this election she could be gone and I do believe the B.C. Lieberals know it or why would they be so anxious to raise all that money. In my opinion, they know they have a problem.

Yes indeed...a real problem. The "stench" from this party and its methods, have giving a new meaning to low life politics. This is corruption at its finest. Worried? I'll bet they are. A corruption enquiry would indeed spell the end of a few career's. Not to mention the obvious embarrassments of many court ordered audits for both the government departments and perhaps corporate donors to the party. Then there is the issue of a conflict of interest commissioner being in a conflict with the government. Hmmm. This is getting more entertaining all the time.
A "properly"run enquiry, will bring the individuals involved in both the government and the party backroom, into the "light of day". Yes there will be jail sentences, yes the proceeds of crime can and will be used to return the huge sums of money to the taxpayer via the services that should be paid for. Not "pie in the sky" industries, that are another throw of the dice.
Its time to reclaim the wealth of the taxpayer that has been manipulated out of responsible governance and into the hands of corporations friendly to the party. If it sound like you heard this before you have. Welcome to Russian corrupt politics 101. Taxpayers no longer exist in a sense. The middle class does not exist. The rich "criminal" elite possess all the wealth, the common man, nothing.

You the people of BC are well on the way to huge debts and being milked out of taxpayer dollars by manipulative deals made by corrupt politicians. This is fraud and theft, pure and simple.

The legal system, what a sham. No power or indeed in a potential conflict itself, how can the corruption be challenged
or indeed investigated? This truly is farce on a grand scale....the Canadian legal system is broken and the policing system a pure joke.

Chuckstraight said...

Christy`s take on it- Global News- the current system is better than the NDP`s which would cost taxpayers money.

Unreal- the corporate do not want to lose their "influence".
She just supplied us with alternative facts.

B.C. Premier Christy Clark brushed off questions about cash-for-access rules in the province on Friday. [27/Jan/17]

This comes a day after a $5,000-a-plate fundraising dinner for her party at Mission Hill Winery in West Kelowna.

"We'll see how it works. I think it's an interesting idea, so we're watching it," said Clark.

Hiring lobbyists to influence a Legislator is not the best path to protecting our rights and creating good-paying jobs for our families. The best way to protect our rights and pass laws that ensure every has equal opportunities is to make sure more vote.
