The good Mr. Sloan of Mississauga has written a letter.
It is not clear who, exactly, he has written said letter to, but it would appear he wants everyone in Canada, or at least everyone in #CdnPoli, to read it.
Anyway....
In his letter Mr. Sloan explicitly states that he never questioned, or even intended to question, the loyalty of Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam:
"...I did not - and I am not - questioning Dr. Tam's loyalty to Canada. There was no intention to question it..."
Which means everything is all fine and good, right?
Well, actually, no - at least according to the actual record and, as you might have guessed, Mr. Sloan himself just three paragraphs later in his very own letter:
"...The question regarding whether she works 'for Canada' or 'for China' was a rhetorical question. Sure I could have just as easily asked does she work 'for Canada' or 'for the World Health Organization'..."
Gosh.
Even if one ignores the issues with syntax and punctuation, after reading that it is almost impossible not to ask the following question...
Does this very fine young fellow even knows what he is saying and/or questioning?

The non apology apology.
Ed--
Indeed, it most definitely is.
.
Given the blowback and all round embarrassment from the original text, one would have thought that any subsequent explanation, clarification or heavens forbid an apology, would have been written, then vetted to the nth degree to ensure no further damage could be done.
Whether the party brass thought it was a good idea to leave Mr. Sloane to his own devices or let it go out as written, along with the debacle of Mr. Scheers leadership, brings into question the competence of the movers and shakers behind the scenes. Are they too clueless to realize they are clueless.?
First rule of holes: stop digging them deeper.
But Keith....
There's more base under the muck at the bottom of that hole, is there not?

Mr. Sloan is a Seventh-day Adventist who believes being gay is a choice, and says if elected leader he would reopen the abortion debate and introduce bills to ban same-sex marriage. He opposed Bill C-16, which protects people from discrimination on the basis of gender identity, and vowed to vote against a federal ban on conversion therapy.
His riding is 92% white, 95% English-speaking, and is solidly in Ontario’s Bible Belt.
If the Conservative Party elects him leader, Liberals won’t stop smiling for a very long time.
In my opinion Mr. Sloan isn't the brightest or best writer around. However, his intent is clear. things like racism cross my mind. He may also have a little difficulty with Dr. Tam being female.
The Conservatives elect him, The Cons will be lucky if they're official opposition.
“But Keith....
There's more base under the muck at the bottom of that hole, is there not?”
LOL, true enough Ross, but if the cons. want to stay in permanent other party status ( which would suit me and many of us just fine) the denizens at the bottom of the hole weren’t and won’t be enough to get them the top job.
Alienating fence sitters, ethnic diverse communities and giving other parties more reasons not to work with them in a minority setting, by not using common decency doesn’t appear to be to bright. And they just keep doing it.
Good point about clear intent e.a.f.

Agreed Keith.
However, given the intolerant corner they've built for themselves they also can't win without said base which is why the braintrust is so afraid to forcefully denounce the words, deeds and actions of actors like Mr. Sloan.
