From the transcript of Mr. Trump's appearance on NBC's Meet The Press, yesterday:
..."We’re subsidizing Canada to the tune over $100 billion a year. We’re subsidizing Mexico for almost $300 billion. We shouldn’t be — why are we subsidizing these countries? If we’re going to subsidize them, let them become a state."...
Of course, as you may have already guessed, it appears that Mr. Trump wrongly assumes that an export trade surplus is a subsidy.
And our topsubsidy...errrrrr...trade export to his fine country?
Oil.
Gosh.

I wonder what the super fine folks currently running the Albertalands think of these latest developments?

It is very likely almost certain that, beyond tariffs, Mr. Trump has no current plans to push annexation forward at this time...After all, developing such plans would actually take work and coordination...However, Trump's statement yesterday certainly puts the lie to claims that his raising of the 51st state concept during his meeting with Mr. Trudeau a week or so ago was just a joke in the multilateral machine.

Trump's Lebensraum is directly from his current playbook to become a world dictator.
We have fast forwarded from 1933 to 1938 and unless someone stops him, Canada, post national and all, will become history.
How to stop Trump? Go nuclear and M.A.D. and tell Trump the first bomb is aimed directly at Mar-La-Go.
Trudeau the younger and especially the Wee "P" are out of their league and we need a real prick to deal with Trump and his billionaire MAGA friends.
It is deja vu all over again and we are fast closing in on a replay of 1939, with the lights going out in Canada.
For Canada it is speak softly and carry a big nuke.
Ah, that won't work. the U.S.A. has a shit load of nukes and we don't have any. according to the computer the Americans have 3750 nukes and are planning on dismantling about 2K. If Canada were to start collecting them, we'd be way to far behind. Nukes which explode make things a tad uncomfortable to live around. If you don't remember WW II, or the reactor in Ukraine which blew up about 25 yrs ago or the reactor in Japan which "broke" during the earth quake, check your computer.
It is doubtful Trump is going to do much of anything. If you have a look at some of his cabinet picks and others who will be installed in lower level positions, most of them don't know their ass from a whole in the ground and a number come with criminal records. They'll be too busy sacking the American treasury.
Given Trump appears to be some what revenge driven, expect him to try to jail his political enemies from the little screw up he staged when he lost the previous election. Trump will want to deport people. Surprise, he is going to be stamping his feet for some time on that one. Some countries are simply saying, NO. Also there is the no small matter of it costing the American budget approx $88B. a year. If he has to raise taxes, his big donners won't like it and the rest of the U.S.A. can't afford it.
If Trump becomes too much of a problem without sending a lot of cash to his supporters, Trump may find he has a problem.
I think Trudeau has done the smart thing, went to dinner, put up with Trump's idiocies, smiled at Trump like you do a toddler having a tantrum and came back to Canada knowing that he is smarter, better looking and more popular than Trump.
I'd suggest Trudeau is not out of his league. Perhaps PP is, but you might want to remember since he was born he was been in a very political life, even as a child.
Some of Trump's cabinet suggestions are a little weird and will cause the U.S..A to have some real problems. His suggested person for Food, etc. is from California where he has a raw milk dairy. Its closed right now for making too many people sick. He has people lined up to occupy positions who want to destroy the FBI, military, DOJ, etc. If Kennedy makes it to Health, the dying can begin. An anti vaccer in charge of health. I'd expect him to remove the food program for kids also.
Lets not forget some of his "team" want to finish off social security and health care. That should work well for all those who can't survive with those services. We all saw the news regarding Syria. If Trump goes ahead with his plans we can expect to see something similar in the U.S.A. That country has more guns than people.
Rule no. 1. Never make a threat you can't back up.
Rule no. 2. Give them enough rope to hang themselves.
Rule no. 3. Remain polite so the other looks like an asshole.
Rule no. 4. Never take a weapon into a fight which can be taken away from you.
Rule no. 5. Its way more fun to poke the bear and have them look like they're out of control.
Rule no. 6. Line up support and do it very quietly.
Rule no. 7. Wait until your enemy is not looking when you "take care of business".
Canada can avoid a lot of problems by simply just ignoring Trump. He is going to be way to busy trying to act like he is in control and finding ways to rip off the U.S.A. and any one else. This is the last kick at the can to make any money. Of course with any luck he will trip, fall, break something and be out of business.
Just a note: when i wasn't stuffing containers in Chelsea or rolling kegs at the Swan, I attended free lectures offered by many educational institutions. One was on thermonuclear war and it was an eyeopener.
According to the chap giving the lecture, 6 well placed thermonuclear bombs would so destroy the UK that it would take over 50 years to attain the level it was at before the attack.
The USA, 10 well placed thermonuclear devices, would also create the same havoc, though it would take them 20 to 30 years to recover to the level pre attack.
Ground bursts would double the long term effects and quadruple the deaths over the long term.
The lecture was an eyeopener and having nukes in the thousands, is more penis envy, than sound strategic deterrence.
when one has a malignant narcissist next door as a president, who yearns to be a dictator, having a few devices of mass destruction, sadly is the only way to prevent being invaded.

@realDonaldTrump
It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all! DJT

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
I'm becoming to wonder if Trump detractors are been taken for a ride?
Trump often aims high but is happy when he wins low!!
Trump is a grifter after all!
I don't believe Trump has a political idealism only a financial win.
Trump could go down in history as the greatest con man of all time?
TB
There is an old saying with toy collectors; "He who has the most toys when one dies is the winner".
Sadly, with a grifter like Trump, he acting as a toy collector and that what scares me.
EE and Anon-Above--
While I get your point EE, I'm with Anon-Above in that, all snark aside, No nukes is the only nukes for me given what such a thing would really mean for everyone.
_______
Grant--
Yup...It would appear that the good Mr. Trump has stuck his finger into the wind being generated by the newscycle - driven Wurlitzer and has decided that inflaming this story a little longer will get him more of the attention his child-mind seeks most.
_______
TB--
I agree. In the world of this particular perpetual child mind, everything is transactional.
