In case you missed it amongst all the superficial 'Make Vancouver Crypto Friendly!' headlines, the recent blather from Vancouver mayor Ken Sim is about more than becoming best bud's with the bitcoin bros.

To wit, the following is taken directly from Mr, Sim's council resolution (see point #12):
"...It would be irresponsible for the City of Vancouver to not look at the merits of adding Bitcoin to the City’s strategic assets to preserve the City’s financial stability..."
Yes.
You've got that right.
Mr. Sim is doing his best to shame/scare our fair city's citizenry into seriously considering speculating with their own tax dollars.
What could possibly go wrong?

Um, just a question or two.
Is not Bitcoin the currency of the 'dark web', drug dealers, and other nefarious villains who launder money?
Did we not learn any lessons from the Casino-gate money laundering scandal, where the "Vancouver model of money laundering" was well known by law enforcement agencies around the world?
As Vancouver yearns to be world class, is laundering illegal drug and other monies really the way to go to earn that coveted "world class" moniker?
Just asking!
Trump is all in(probably all bought) on crypto...
Bandwagon riders .....Vancouver never fails to get aboard...
On a side note....Trump posted a few days ago that America will be building new monuments..Most likely Trump statues..
Now Trump is going full Tokyo Rose....Appointing Kari Lake to remake Voice of America with an emphasis on Trump's nationalism..

We have to use all that surplus power from Site C somehow! Mine Ponzicoin!
yes, what could possibly go wrong? Sims might want to get back to ensuring the City is viable and a healthy place to live and leave the banking up to the bankers. Any government who wants to start gambling with civic money is going to either bankrupt the city or wind up in jail.
Have to wonder who talked Sims into this? Really thought he was brighter than this. O.K. I was blinded by the Christmas Train in Stanley Park, but bitcoin, yikes.
I'm more into hard cash or gold, but from what I've read that "mining" for bitcoin using electricity. That is going to be expensive because we are a tad short of that. Now why start using electricity that could be used to do such things as heat homes. Oh, well. At the old age of 75, I can remember in my younger years, there were still people who had gone through the depression and they kept cash in their homes. Some even only kept it in silver coins--several thousand dollars. Might be time to buy a larger safe.
Next door in Alberta the Premier wants to use the provincial workers' pension fund to "invest" in the oil business in alberta. they put harper in charge. They're asking what could go wrong there. Well we can set up a pool, for which goes broke first, the city of Vancouver or the province of Alberta. It might be safer to take the money to the track and have some one bet there with the tax dollars. Yes, in my younger years knew a person, that was how they made their living, betting at the track at the PNE.
