Well, well, well...
It looks like the always above board, super-fine folks from FIFA have Vancouver city council in their back pocket.
Lisa Steacy of CTV News has the story:
Gosh.
One can only wonder what 'brand' specifically the super-finest of the fine folks from FIFA are trying to 'protect'
Is it, perchance...
This?
__________
And, perhaps the worst part of the new 'bylaw', especially for Bigger E?...They will also be curtailing street performing...Aargggh!

Lisa Steacy of CTV News has the story:
A FIFA-specific bylaw was approved by Vancouver city council Wednesday, enabling $1,000 tickets to be issued for a range of infractions during next year’s World Cup.
The bylaw covers the period from May 13 to July 20 of 2026 and will allow city officials and police to issue tickets levying hefty fines for things like “distributing advertising matter on streets” and “defacing or postering furniture, light standards, poles on streets” and “placing advertising matter on vehicles on streets.”
The goal, staff said at Wednesday’s meeting, is to ensure “brand protection” and target bylaw violations that run afoul of the city’s contractual obligations...

BC Lions all gone and no more dragon boats (Guns, Guns, Guns!)
The Ukelele Liberation Army has been notified.
Remember, this is BC and every civic politician is in someones pocket. It is the name of the game, money.
FIFA hides its corruption under the "sports" facade and as the big money, event invites, and associated photo-ops with the rich and famous, I am not surprised Sim and his ilk pull a "Hegseth" and liquidate all who dare flaunt the rule of law.
Sadly, the council will not deal seriously with real crimes but golly gee whiz, piss off FIFA and it is considered treason.
A side note: An acquaintance of mine ran for civic politics in my municipality and he was completely out of his league. Literally, backpacks of cash were trading hands with everyone looking the other way.
The big spenders were sports teams, who wanted field allocations and special park privileges like people not being allowed play on sports fields or baseball diamonds. They even lobbied politcans to look the other way at illegal consumption of alcohol in municipal facilites.
The telemarketing types were spreading rumours faster than a F-1 race lap. He lost of course, badly and he was out of pocket by thousands of dollars, but those who won seemed quite flush with cash and more. The favourite currency was $5 dollar bills, very used $5 dollar bills, thousands of them.
As a retired civic employee I recall many bylaws passed by my employer did not stand when challenged in a court of law. I suspect this one might not either.

Mr. P--
Ya.
I reckon they're probably counting on the 'temporary' nature of the bylaw to decrease the chance of a court challenge.
E.'s biggest fear is that the temporary may become permanent, however.

Indeed!
(although it's more often six stringed instruments these days)

Catering to corruption, FIFA, only encourages corruption.
I wonder if and if so , how many Vancouver Councillors , have access to good cheap! seats at the games?

FIFA, when you look at their board members, etc. you just get this reallllly sick feeling like you need to get out of a room filled with slime. I'd say FIFA makes other corrupt groups look positively just fine. How they got the Vancouver City council to go along and pass these "by laws" who knows, but some of us have good guesses.
I do believe the off spring is correct. Those bi laws will stay in place.
I don't recall when FIFA didn't have the reputation it does, just as the O's have a similar reputation. Its not just about the money, its about power and control. these aged ugly old men would not be living the life style they are if it weren't for belonging to the organization. we ought never to have applied to have games here. It not worth it. Tax payers always wind up paying one way or the other.
They call soccer the beautiful game. perhaps but it is in a very ugly environment. Expect an influx of sex trade workers, drug deaths, etc.
The Olympics and FiFA. Two criminal orgs posing as sport developers for the world. When has it not cost tax payers money, and the use of their own cities. How many people have been displaced for “sport facilities” or “Athlete housing” at the cost of people’s homes.Imagine if all money given to these gangsters was instead spent on the cities that hosted the events instead of developers and executives getting rich.
