Nevermind qualifiers like 'approaching' or 'adjacent'.
Mike Brock, writing at TechDirt explains:
Why?
Because the 'ism' that we all fear, whether we live there or not, has taken root in today's United States.
Mark Kelly—former Navy combat pilot, astronaut, sitting United States Senator—stated a simple legal fact on video: members of the US military can refuse illegal orders. Not as opinion. Not as political positioning. As established law codified in the Uniform Code of Military Justice and affirmed at Nuremberg when “I was following orders” was rejected as defense for war crimes.
The Trump Administration opened a federal investigation into him for saying this.
Jesse Watters praised the investigation on Fox News: “You have to make examples out of people.”
Slow down. Read that again. One more time. Let it register fully.
A sitting senator stated constitutional law. The executive branch opened an investigation into him for stating it. State propaganda praised this as making an example.
This isn’t approaching fascism. This isn’t fascism-adjacent. This is fascism—the actual thing, not the metaphor, happening in real time on national television while we debate whether calling it fascism is too divisive...
Now, even that is much less clear.
At least for the institutions.

It was clear to me Trump was a facist/nazi during his first term when he separated children from parents and locked them up in cages with minimal food and hygiene products. It was clear to me he was a racist when he kept insisting five black young men had raped a young woman
even though the actual criminal had been convicted and was in prison. It was clear to me he was an incompetent business person when he filed bankruptcy.
What he is doing now is trying to frighten others into not criticizing him for his failures and incompetence. Given the 6 politicians and former military types it is doubtful they will be frightened of trump. Rachel Maddox asked Senator Mark Kelly if Trump was causing him to be afraid. Kelly then went on to list what he had done in his career. The two which just cracked me up was he had flown 39 missions during the Gulf War, had gone into space 4 times in a space ship built by the lowest bidder and then looked at the camera. His wife, while meeting with constituents, was shot in the head and 6 others were killed. He looked at the camera. He didn't have to say anything more. Like what do trump and heggie think they can do to scare him. those two are so stupid. they need to recognize just because they run scared doesn't mean others do.
The down grading of the seriousness of the symbols is simply Trump's way of signalling to his followers, such as the Proud Boys, etc. things are going to be "o.k.". The father land will rise again. Its much like when he used that phrase "stand by and..."
It started with attacking people of Mexican, Central and South American descent. He will be continuing on to other groups. Expect he will attempt to attack the Indigenous People, other European groups, oh yes he will go for the Jews and the Muslims. Yes his son in law is Jewish and his daughter converted, but when he is no longer useful to him, trust me he will treat him no differently. Its just his son in law and family will have enough money and contacts to get out of dodge.
Nothing Trump is doing surprises me. Mind you I don't think he is smart enough to organize ll of this but steve Miller is. One of Hitler's hencemen had a little book which outlined how to run a nazi system and its being followed religiiously by the current group of nazis in the white house and Congress. Do not expect things to get better. Once trump has sold out Ukraine he will move on most likely to Poland and then other former eastern block countries. He will leave the three Balkan countries to the last, they are too close to the Scanda countries He may skip them because Germany is sitting in the way but it depends upon who is Chancellor. It is during this point Canada had better be prepared to accept European refugees. A war in Europe is a very good reason for Canada to purchase the Swedish jets and have their factory in Canada. Ontario is large enough and has a large enough population to staff such a factory with more workers next door in Quebec.
I am not hopeful for the future. Things are not that different from pre WW II. Russia has almost an endless supply of soldiers. Putin "rents" them from North Korea
The USA was always a fascist state. During the early part of WW2, the US Ambassador to the UK was actively informing his fascist friends in Berlin about the state of the UK. So egregious was his activities, MI 5 planned to terminate him or in UK parlance, "reduced to produce".
At the beginning of WW2, the American passed a law forbidding the delivery of "paid for" airplanes to the UK except (discovered by a mean and nasty Canadian reading the fine print) that horse drawn cartage was excluded. Said planes were horse hauled across the border.
Of course Pearl Harbour changed things, but not for long and since the Reagan era, the USA has been reverting back to its fascist roots. 9/11 sealed the fate of the USA as fascism became the norm.
Trump is just the poster boy for the MAGA fascist party, but now the spectre of Epstein, plus a military on the edge of mutiny, the MAGA fascists are wilting on the vine - for now.
Never forget, the USA is a fascist country, always has and always will be.
In Canada we also have our fascist wannabees, like the Wee P and others. We must "guard the leaf" so to speak to send a message that they are not welcome.
That little fist pump trump does all the time, I mean ALL the time. Coming and going to whatever engagement or photo opportunity or helicopter ride or entrance or exit, he does his little raised fist thing. That’s it, that’s the signal to the others like him, the proud boys types, the fascists, that’s his way of saying I am here and I am fighting our fight, I am with you.
I sincerely hope that in the US there are people that are working to limit this guys damage and looking to remove him from office. Not by offing him but by the legal means at their disposal that have been built into their system.
He’s pushing it a bit more every day and they are getting very close to an edge they, well most, will not won’t to go over. I personally thought they were at the edge some time ago but surely they have a toe over it by now.
I did not know about the horse drawn planes. Thanks for the laugh. Canadian do know how to read.
Quite the little online kult you got going hereabouts. Palmer really was right about you all those years ago. And we suppose it's not happenstance that none of you ever mention a word about BC or Eby. Kudos, boys, you're doing nothing right and still somehow managing to ignore it all. If nothing else, you're taking myopia to a very impressive level.
“The 2025-26 Budget deficit is projected at $11.6 Billion and expected to increase to $12.6 Billion in 2027; the debt reaching $134 Billion in 2025 … UP more than 50% in two years.
Horrible!
“And BC taxpayers are paying the price: the province’s Credit Rating was recently dropped by Fitch to an AA+, with a “negative” outlook, while S&P rated BC at A+, also with a “negative” outlook. A lower rating raises debt interest costs.”
BC is in a financial mess!
56% of British Columbians SUPPORT a northern oil pipeline (as do 59% of Canadians overall). Take a look: https://angusreid.org/pipeline-push-alberta-bc-eby-smith/.
Just the idea of moving Saskatchewan potash to world markets through a US port, instead of BC, should be a wake up call to Eby/BC NDP … they are failing British Columbians in creating conditions that make exporting through BC desirable.
"BC …, ironically, has become America’s best ally to keeps monopolizing most of Canada’s oil, at a huge discount!"
You understand, don’t you, what the aim was of the “Seditious Six” politicians who made last week’s now-notorious video suggesting that US military personnel should refuse the president’s orders if they deemed them to be “illegal?” This was the old Lefty game of provoking the authorities to react intemperately so they can be labeled “fascist.” It’s like the old schoolyard game of the kid who goes I’m touching you. . . I’m touching you. . . until the touched kid explodes. . . so the toucher can then say, look, he’s hitting me!
And they certainly succeeded in pissing-off the president enough for Mr. Trump to suggest they could be hanged for their little prank — though he was probably incorrect about the legal niceties therein.
That members of the out-party in Congress and the Senate must resort to this kind of skylarking japery tells you how desperate they are. The organizer, Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, is a former CIA officer. Is she in communication regularly with any of her former colleagues at the Agency? And did she coordinate any part of her prank with them? I bet DNI Tulsi Gabbard could find out and let CIA Director John Ratcliffe know so he can fire their ass.
The intel bureaucracy remains a hotbed of resistance to the swamp-draining project underway since 01/20/25. The swamp creatures like their swamp fecund and fetid as it has been, with the rich revenue stream it is used to feeding on, and Mr. Trump has done much to change that. Alas, the CIA remains the most implacably opaque major operation in government. It insists that its activities require secrecy, and the awful downside is that the Agency has run without real oversight since its inception after the Second World War. Gawd knows how many John Brennan clones are still lodged over in the Langley, VA, HQ.
Whoa, troll/nazi alert above.
Funny thing though, I didn’t see Mr. K. mention BC or its financial state in the article or pipelines and potash and oil for that matter.
He must have hit a nerve with the nazi wannabes and trump fanboys though as they seem triggered by the mere mention of their ill doings. Funny that nowadays even mentioning such unacceptable behaviour is offending to some. It used to be a given that all good people and most others wouldn’t tolerate this.
As well, the brave people and Mr. kelly who have made it known that what trump is doing and has done and what he encourages is not good behaviour for a president and its government And for the enlisted people is spot on. Again, it’s mind boggling that such a thing is even necessary to say in this day and age but a couple of the responses here show why it is.
Lots of activity. I read the article as referring to the fact that the US Military can refuse illegal orders, which they can if the orders violate the US Constitution, or the law. Many off topic statements here.

I see you blog has hit the big time as professional trolls are engaged to try to mute comment - not likely.
My friends at Rail for the Valley have the same issue, when a sensitive topic is discussed.
Being Trolled in today's world is a sign of success!
Six posts within thirty minutes at about 3am Pacific time. Nothing suspicious about that. Even if this guy lives in Georgia, he’s up early.
Flies buzzin' around our eyes.
Oh well.
Looks like the content moderation will have to go up again...Sorry for the inconvenience folks.
.
A couple of trolls who would definitely have been shut down quick, by pretty much everybody around them back in the pre webernet days. What swamp? You mean the orange crypto king makin buzzillions while in office ? Thanks for the laugh Vlad😝😂Mark Kelly is a hero,Donny bonespurrs not so much.
well it was funny. left me wondering if they had wandered in from some where and didn't know where they were. the one titled Swampy omg don't know what swampy he crawled out of but he must have left his brains there. oh well it was entertaining. At least they all displayed how out of touch they are with reality. Now can they move on
