Thirty-seven year old Mats Sundin will be paid at least $5,000,000 to play 41 hockey games for the Vancouver Canucks over the next four months or so.
Which works out to about $120,000 per game.
Which, based on 20 minutes played per game, works out to ~$360,000 per hour (all figures US).
All for a player that scored 379 points over the last five seasons.
Which sounds like a lot, until you realize he also played 370 games during those same five seasons.
Which works out to 1.02 points per game.
By way of comparison, the CanuckleHeads last aging saviour, Mr. Messier, amassed 1.20 points per game in the five years before he arrived in Lotusland at the age of 36.
And we all know how that one turned out.....
_____
Mr. Sundin's first $120K payday is tonight, when the Canucks play Edmonton.
Update: Sundin actually played 15 minutes in the Canucks 4-2 win.....Didn't figure in the scoring....Therefore, paid $480,000 per hour to go 0-0 tonight.....
