Our oldest kid, Bigger E., is going to school far away.
And this year she has been off on her own, off-campus.
But last Thursday night she came home for Christmas, so we met her at the airport.
Musically, of course....
_______
Had a big extravaganza planned...As a result, I actually went to Airport in stealth mode via Canada Line, guitar in hand, and met E. upstairs before she got down to the baggage claim...It was all worked out long distance so that we could surprise littler e. and C. with 'A Christmas Waltz' coming down the escalator....Didn't quite work out that way....Instead, we walked away from the baggage carousel playing and singing...Unlike last year though, the sound was a little wonky (as was my playing) so we dubbed in the tune later using the fantastic little recorder that reader Don F. recommended (thanks Don!).

Geeze they aren't even my kids and this has me tearing up with that parental feeling you get when they come back home... nicely done. Littler e is not so little any more,a lovely young woman to be. You are so blessed and so are they to have such a cool dad. Merry Christmas to you all!
I teared up too. I'm glad you're all together for the holiday.
Merry Christmas to all of you, RossK.
What a lovely, beautiful voice.
In my family, there is quite a spread in ages. My older brothers and a sister, served in WW11. I was born during the war. I didn't even know them, until they came back home. There were nine of us kids.
My grandad was a choir master, back in the 1800's. Granddad taught all nine of us to sing, in four part harmony. That was our fun and entertainment way back then. It was nothing for 25 neighbors, to drop in at our farm. Our farm was always the place, where all the fun was. There were guitars, fiddles, banjo's, washboards and spoons were our drums. There would be tables of bridge inside. There would be games of horseshoes, going on outside. Those were the best years of my life.
Some of my siblings are gone now. We were a very close family. Music was a part of the glue that still keeps us together, to this very day.
Have a great x-mas with your family. Sing lots of wonderful songs.
Oh this was so very sweet, Ross. What a lovely family and such a touching welcome home. You really caught the spirit of the holidays.
Merry Christmas to all of you and happy holidays together.
Thanks Don.
We will, and you be sure you and yours do too!

Thanks Laila--
Feel the same way about you and yours when I watch our old video from down at the beach with our harmonica player...And, just in case anyone didn't know it, the header picture to this blog was taken by Laila

Wow.
I can see why they were the best years of your life...I had a great time as a kid but, still, sometimes I think I was born at the wrong time..Banjos, fiddles, washboards and horseshoes!
Just wow.
And we will.
Sing lots of wonderful songs I mean.

A little jury-rigged this year because I blew the opening...Luckily C. got us some decent footage.
You all have a fantastic Christmas and holiday season too!
