Half Of The Fraser Institute's Money Comes From Other...

...Charitable Foundations?

Who knew.

Glen McGregor, in a good old fashioned McSushiboy-type OCit pro-blog, has the story:

...Filings with the Canada Revenue Agency show the Institute issued tax receipts for $3,290,266 in 2011 and received another $3,762,372 from other registered charities - most of them foundations...

Interestingly, it would appear that this 'minor' point kinda/sorta gets in the way of the Fraser Institute's anti-progressive taxation stance:

...(The Institute's VP of Canadian Research Neil) Veldhuis says he personally favours moving to an integrated flat tax model without charity deductions but says the Fraser Institute must operate with charitable status in order to be eligible for contributions from foundations.

That is, money given to foundations as tax deductible donations cannot be passed on to fund Fraser Institute work unless it, too, had charity status...

Personally, I'm still waiting to hear what 'charitable' activities, exactly, the Fraser Institute has actually provided to Canadians, foundational or otherwise.

_______
And then, of course, there is the 'American' foundation factor...

Can someone explain how these overpaid right wing windbags can even get a charity deduction, its bad enough here in BC that the taxpayer has to subsidize big business with Carbon taxes and the former HST but having to subsidize the windbags is really sickening
