The Curse Of Clarklandia's Ever Shrinking Coattails...

The seat that Christy Clark once muscled in on and then quit when it suited her is no longer in BC Liberal hands:

Bob Mackin has the story at his Breaker News:

Kelowna West’s Ben Stewart is out of the BC Liberal caucus.

TheBreaker.news understands there was an emergency conference call for caucus members in which they were informed that the MLA in the BC Liberal stronghold has departed because of a matter related to an Elections BC investigation that involves a donation from his constituency assistant...

Gosh.

One can only wonder if the good Mr. Stewart will go full metal blue now that the coat of faux red paint has been removed.

Meanwhile...

It turns out that you can, apparently, bury the lede in a tweet:

Ben and Christy spent a lot of tax dollars taking turn holding the riding, as Christy was unwanted by the people of Vancouver.
The folks of West Kelberta love them though.

Quite a difference in the way Mackin reported this, compared to Zussman's "nothing to see here" style. The latter guy has been well trained by his Global and Postmedia colleagues.

When Christy needed the seat, Mr. Stewart stepped aside in what Christy termed “An act of character.”

Months later, Christy decided BC needed a special representative in Asia at $150K per annum plus perquisites and Ben Stewart just happened to be the best person in the whole wide world to fill the post.

The Criminal Code:
119 (1) Every one is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years who
* (a) being the holder of a judicial office, or being a member of Parliament or of the legislature of a province, directly or indirectly, corruptly accepts, obtains, agrees to accept or attempts to obtain, for themselves or another person, any money, valuable consideration, office, place or employment in respect of anything done or omitted or to be done or omitted by them in their official capacity, or
* (b) directly or indirectly, corruptly gives or offers to a person mentioned in paragraph (a), or to anyone for the benefit of that person, any money, valuable consideration, office, place or employment in respect of anything done or omitted or to be done or omitted by that person in their official capacity.

There are folks who believe that there was absolutely no connection whatsoever between his resignation and his subsequent appointment and that the whole affair was a complete coincidence.

I am not one of them.

And you expect me to be! Good lord! As much as I respect and revere Queen Christy I am appalled, neigh gobsmacked, that there might be a connection! I believe good ole Ben, a connoisseur of fine wines, or producer of such, was immanently qualified to represent Canada in a wine making contest, but as an emissary to Asia? He doesn't even speak Asian!

Lew, I'm not one either.

Do wonder what is up. Oh, well, if you wait long enough in this province, it all comes around again. This ought to be fun, if we hear anything more about it. Lets hope Breaker keeps us all in the loop and you to RossK!

IF Ben, the wine maker perceives, he was "sold out" by one of his own, you never know what a "whinner" he may become or what colour.
