Irony, Thy Name Is Two Hundred Ninety-Seven

I dunno about you, but something buried deep within Mark Hume's RailGate Day 1 Round-Up in the Globe struck me as just literally too bizarre for words.....

.....(RailGate Special Prosecutor) Mr. Berardino said evidence will show (US RailCo) OmniTrax paid Pilothouse $297,000 and that Erik Bornman, a director of Pilothouse, will testify “that he made regular money payments to Mr. [Dave] Basi . . .[and that] Mr. Basi instructed him to make checks payable to Aneal Basi.”.....

Why bizarre?

Well, because of that number in red.

Now, where have we seen that number, associated with BC Rail, before?

Hmmmmmmm.....let's have a think.....

And now if you'll just hang for a moment while I do a quick search....

Oh.... ya....here it is!

From Sean Holman's Public Eye (ie. nonPre-Trial) Archives:

.....British Columbia Railway Co. financial statements show the company paid $297,000 to former provincial Liberal co-chair Patrick Kinsella's companies Progressive Holdings Ltd. and The Progressive Group between 2002 and 2005 for services rendered....

Imagine that!

______
More seriously.....Pilothouse received $297,000 and allegedly did the bribing with a measly $27,000 .....So, here's the thing.....Given all that, how come it is only those that allegedly took the bribes that have been charged with a crime....What's really up with that we wonder?

It is the 'olde buddy' network falling into place to cover their own precious tushes plain and simple. Them that has get and the minions get court time. Nice to see the list of the movers and shakers in this tawdry affair having being called to court. Wont it be interesting to see what kind of practiced lies and prevarications are committed under oath. Just who is going to jump ship before it goes down? Now wont that be a sight. Will the Captain cover his arse first and take to the life boat and leave the rest to drown? Is the Captain looking for a life saver from the Feds in Ottawa, the business community or corporate directors? It will be interesting to see just WHO will throw 'the ring' and who doesn't. And just maybe the sharks in the court house will drag him into their .................

RossK,

I am so impressed ... that was a brilliant piece o'work.

Also, a busy Anon, over at my place, got another revelation: he says Berardino referred to Bornmann's immunity deal in today's warm-up speech to the Basi Virk jury, whereas in 2007 the Crown was saying there was NO immunity deal with Bornmann.

As for Skookum1, he's figured out how we can take back our railway in about 3 different ways, and soon, too.

Thanks Mary--

Ya, I caught the immunity thing too...

Heading on over to your place....

Mary has some interesting details about today's hearing. The court list refers to an application. I've put my best guess as to the nature of that application up as a comment.

Plus the story about the leaks! OMG as the youngsters say. I hauled out an old QP from 2004 to show that many a blind eye was turned to other leaks.

And one day RossK, I'll tell you how I found Kinsella's $297,000 payment.
