Is Calandra's 'Porn Spy' Comment One More Example Of How...

...Mr. Harper's Canada Is Becoming A Northern Branch Plant Of Tea Party, Inc?

Alison, in her most excellent 'Spy vs. WiFi' post,  has good reason to think so:

...For those of you wondering what .... Calandra meant in the House yesterday when he called Glenn Greenwald, co-journalist on the CBC exposé, "a porn spy" - it's the Canadian nonsense version of American Enterprise Institute's Marc Thiessen's phrase "espionage pornographer" to describe Edward Snowden...

Here's a little snippet of the good Mr. Theissen's wingnut welfare-assisted psychobabblhooed logic pretzelery, straight outta the house of wingnuttery that pays him:

...(Mr. Greenwald's source Edward) Snowden has become the Larry Flynt of the intelligence world – a shameless espionage pornographer. Except for one big difference: Most respectable publications would never publish pornography...

And when did Mr. Thessen, who once wrote speeches for Donald Rumsfeld, publish this wee bit of AEI bought-and-paid-for scholarly 'research'?

Why, right after the New York Times followed first the Guardian, and then the Washington Post's recent exposes of the American NSA's efforts to spy on literally everyone - even people who are using computers that are NOT connected to the interwebz.

And those folks who are working away off-line, of course, must be up to real no good for absolute sure and thus deserve to be spied-upon.

Why?

Because they sure as heck aren't roaming the web looking for porn.

_______
And just in case you were wondering (and even if you weren't)...That 'American Enterprise Institute' think-tanky house of wingnut welfareary that supports the work of very finest of the fine-type propagomonists....errrr....'scholars' like the good Mr. Theissen has long had various and assorted financial and 'scholarly' connections to the ideologically-aligned Lotusland-located mini-me think-tanky shed just down the street that likes call itself the 'Fraser Institute'...Imagine that!
And just in case yout thought HarperCo's recent dissing of veterans and Canadian decency was a brand 'new' thing....This.

and then there's this...

When the partner of journalist Glenn Greenwald was detained at Heathrow airport last August under the Terrorism Act, MI5 were pulling the strings and knew full well that he wasn't a terrorist

"Please do not make any reference to espionage activity. It is vital that MIRANDA is not aware of the reason for this ports stop. We would be grateful if this stop could be made to seem as routine as possible, and that it appears that this stop is not at the request of the Security Service."

Luke Harding, The Guardian
