From Stephen Hui's lede in the GStraight:

A FORMER DEPUTY minister to Gordon Campbell is set to take the helm of B.C. Hydro.

Jessica McDonald will replace the retiring Charles Reid as president and CEO on July 14, the board of directors of the Crown corporation announced today (May 29).

"I thank Charles for his dedication and leadership and I congratulate Jessica on her new role," Minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett said in a news release. "She has the right mix of skills and public and private sector leadership experience to ensure we keep rates down while BC Hydro invests in our electricity system. I look forward to working with her as BC Hydro continues to implement the 10-year-plan."

From 2005 to 2009, McDonald served as deputy minister to the premier, cabinet secretary, and head of the public service. Most recently, McDonald led the provincial government's review of the Industry Training Authority, which wrapped up in April. She's also a director of ICBC...

Gosh.

It sure does make you wonder...

When, exactly, will they bring Spiderman home and make him the Chief Justice of All That Is Supreme?

like does this person have any experience being a CEO of a large company, i.e. know how to make profits? wonder if she just "got the job" as a present or did they actually advertise for candidates for the job?

O.K. she got the job because of who she knows, not what she knows. we can look forward to more screw ups at hydro with more money bleeding form it to the provincial coffers. Now everybody go back to sleep until we need you to yell at those greedy teachers, them wanting a decent salary and all. they can't have it, just people like ceos who are friends of the liebeals.

Paul wrote in 2006: "B.C.’s business community, like everyone else, found out about the New Relationship agreement after the election, when the deal was already done."

So... HST anyone?

---

again from 2006: "The government’s embarrassing last-minute rejection in December of BC Hydro’s long-term energy plan sparked suggestions the premier’s office had fumbled. Hydro executives trusted that the rest of the government was being canvassed. It wasn’t, and when the caucus saw the plan – which includes the controversial multi-billion-dollar Site C dam on the Peace River – everything went off the rails."

---

There is also this from 2006: "“There’s an incredible rate of turnover,” McDonald says. “What we’re going to face in the next 10 years is the loss of about 40 per cent of our junior managers, 60 per cent of our middle-level managers and 70 per cent of our senior managers,” she says. “That’s an incredible rate of turnover.” The government has to position itself as a great place to work to compete for the best candidates, she says."

and from the BC Hydro blurb: "From 2005 to 2009, she held the most senior public service position in the provincial government as deputy minister to the premier, cabinet secretary and head of the BC Public Service" ... "As head of the BC Public Service, McDonald initiated a bold human resources renewal program, achieving a 10-point increase in employee engagement with positive gains sustained over multiple years, including during the economic downturn. These results were complemented by the organization’s first-ever listing in B.C.’s Top 50 Employers, Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top 25 Family Friendly Employers, and Canada’s 30 Greenest Employers."

Seems pretty clear that McDonald is being brought in to make sure Site C happens.

From a friend who works for BC Hydro.
This consultant apparently had something to do with the smart meter thing of which I refused and at this time don't have.

"The Hansard shows that a consultant was hired at 265 dollars per hour for a total of 1.3 million plus expenses. Very interesting. From the Hydro Web."
