Remember The Flap Over BC Liberal Insiders Working The HST Propaganda Catapault?

Well, well, well....

It looks like the propagandists, and those who hired them, past and present, have even more 'xplainin' to do.

Jonathan Fowlie, in the VSun, has the story (after a nasty, protracted FOI fight).

VICTORIA — The B.C. Liberal government planned to use Olympic nostalgia and free iPads to persuade a reluctant public to support the harmonized sales tax.

“The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games gave British Columbia a foundation to build a stronger province and create new opportunities for workers and families,” said a 10-page pamphlet the government had planned to mail to each home in 2010, not long after the Games had finished...

{snippety doo-dah}

...The government never sent out the pamphlet, shredding all copies not long after having spent $780,000 to have them designed and printed...

{snippety doodle-dandy}

...One part of the pamphlet contained a contest giving people a chance to win one of three Apple iPads, valued, it said, at about $750 each...

Heckfire.

Why didn't they just take us to the pub and buy us a bushel of beer or two as the anti-Tax Shift revolt started cranking up for real?

What's that you say?

Oh, right.

Codswallop like that is actually illegal.

Hey Ross

This disgrace should't be a surprise to anyone following the arrogant incompetence and ongoing garbage the BC Liberals deliver in the absence of honest government.

I can't recall at the time this campaign was planned to be "rolled out" what the other details were. So much fog engulfs the Christy nightmare. I would not be surprised if not done "in house" that the contract was expedited without tender and for sure would be done by an agency well connected to the Liberals - friends to corporations and the 1%, not BC families. Such a waste.

I think it's really funny how Kevin is rewriting history. With a straight face he talks about the "premier of the day" as if he wasn't even there at the time, vigorously defending the HST as being imperative to the future of BC and then says they "decided" not to send the leaflets out, instead of that Elections BC refused to allow them to send them out and they had a hissy fit over it. these people are so pathetic.....

I remember this to be the standard operating system when I grew up back East. Many supporters for both the Liberals and Conservatives would go to the liquor store and buy a case of pints of rum for the election day persuasion. They would do it on their own, although the parties knew they did it. It helped ensure a job if their party won.

Bill--

The roll-outs were unceasing...I'm sure, as cheryl says, all the folks involved would like us to make distinctions wrt the various stops and starts, but, really, why the heck should we?

Anon-Above--

And now, by giving away a few bits of finger-fluff like I-Pads, the next generation of 'supporters' attempt to keep their place at the 'PR' and 'Media Consultant' troughs.
