AndThePaintedPoniesGoUpAndDown
This came my way circuitously through a Book of Faces account that I never use, but only because of the occasional stacatto bursts of a (somewhat) obscure Irish musician I follow on that Twit thing.
You know, it's going to be crummy to lose Mr. Helm for a billion reasons. After all, all the old Band stuff is one thing, but for those who dig roots music Mr. Helm's Midnight Rambles have been the best fertilizer imaginable to grow all its myriad off-shoots for the past few years.
Which is a fantastic testament to an old guy still doin' his thing.
Helping others do their thing, I mean.
Anyway.....
And that's the smooth version.
Here he is really bringing it, right up to the end (stay for Annalee) - damn....

Damn it hurts, the older we get the more our heroes slip away..
Your heart is pure Ross..
Thank goodness you, and our heroes pass on the "good" DNA.
Stay Steady
This is sad news.
Aw. What a whole lot of fabulous noise that man has wedged into one lifetime.
I like this one, Dr. K:

Sad for us, he has given us so much great music. I can't help thinking he and Rick Danko will now be pleasing the heavens with 'evangaline' and 'it makes no difference'.
A rare type of musician who got into your soul and planted himself there forever, he will be missed.

Up on Cripple Creek, she sends me,
If I spring a leak, she mends me,
A drunkards dream if I ever did see one.
Levon was a gift to those of us who thrive on beautiful music with soul! So sorry to hear the news!
It's times like this that I am reminded of how fortunate I am that there are talented people like Levon in the world, people that have added so much pleasure to my life.
Thanks all.
Received a tip on a fantastic piece from a longtime reader, and fellow onetime Whiskey Bar denizen, Caro, on a great piece on Mr. Helm by Charles Pierce for anyone interested.
It can be found here.

And Grant, while my aim, I hope, is mostly true, it would be a lie to go any further than that...
OK?
