From the latest 'official' release from deep within the bowels of Snookland:
VANCOUVER - Premier Christy Clark announced today that Vancouver has been chosen as the inaugural host destination of the Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA), with multiple events to be held across the Lower Mainland between April 4 and 6, 2013.
"The Times of India Film Awards will be seen by hundreds of millions of people in one of the world's fastest-growing economies and Vancouver will be centre stage," said Premier Clark. "This is one piece of our government's outreach efforts in India, opening up new opportunities for trade and investment that will create jobs here at home. This is a tremendous economic opportunity for British Columbia to reach new markets - one that we will take advantage of."....
{snippety doo-dah}
...The Province of British Columbia will provide $9.5 million in matching funding to the Times Group towards producing the event. An additional $1.5 million is being budgeted for various activities in B.C. including hosting the BC-India Global Business Forum, which will be heavily promoted in Times Group's Economic Times, the second largest financial daily in the world in terms of circulation, after The Wall Street Journal...
Look.
This is not even the 'real' Bollywood thing.
So.
Essentially the flack-hackery have pretty much just gone and made-up a brand new 'inaugural' event to replace the established one that previously snubbed the Snooklanders.
Bob Mackin has that story.
****
This is just unbelievable.
Remember.
As we established late last year, this is the same government that will not allow social workers to spend a measly $50 (or less) to buy an 'extra' present specifically for Christmas to be given to kids in their care that are really, really hard up against it.
(and, of course, it will all be spun as 'good' news by the lazy-derriered herd component of the local proMedia that treats press releases like 'news', commodity or otherwise).
______
And note, if you will, the 'timing' of this waste of more than 10 million 'the cupboard is bare!' dollars....

"The province will spend $11 million on the event, which it expects to bring back $13 million to $18 million to BC in direct spending through tourism."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just to be clear here, Christy Clark (and CC4BC) are spending Eleven Million dollars of taxpayers money in the expectation that someone OUTSIDE of Government will rake in $13 to $18 million.
BC Taxpayers will never see the money again......
I'm trying to picture this in my mind and the best I can do is... Pat Bell, Mary Pollak, Mike Dejong,Rich Coleman and Shirley Bond in face paint wearing Indian garb. This is a 'first ever' event afterall. And all for the bargain basement price of 11 million.
As Mr. Coleman would state," a steal at twice the price"
^^^ BC's redneck NDPers EXPOSED!! Adrian rushing off to hollywood to see 'our'(American) industry executives to gain redneck votes since Chirsty is supporting the 'other', you all know in your heart of hearts what that means....What a Pathetic excuse of a party calling themselves 'progressive'.
