Letter Tune From America, No. 3

SittingInThe
Morning(NotQuite)SunVille

Every two summers we return to the Bay Area (eastside division) where Bigger E. was born.

This time around, as we were walking up Hopkins from Monterey Market toward King Park in Berkeley, littler e. asked why the heck we ever left.

Which is a long story involving real jobs and the chance to raise our kids in Canada.

Anyway...

This trip we stayed in Emeryville, that tiny little chunk of pixellated mudflat squeezed between Berkeley and Oakland at the foot of the Bay Bridge into the City which is what you are looking at in the image above.

I took that picture the other morning while sitting there thinking of Mr. Redding...

Will be back from holidays later this week...The Bloggodome Round-Up will return next Sunday...

Ahhh,, holidays! Working late last night. The BS getting too much. You tube blasted "take a holiday in Cambodia". Freaked out a few of the younger workmates..... bwahahaha.....ended up explaining the song quietly later with a second gen Viet guy. He was fascinated and new little of the history. Fuck! I hate the lack of education in this third world country with first world wealth!

Ah, Mr. Redding's Sitting on the dock on the Bay is still a favorite of mine. OMG I'm so old..............must try to find my Otis Redding CD or go buy another for that song. Yes, I'm still using CDs.

our five year old grandson insists, INSISTS, that Otis Redding's Sitting on the dock of the Bay be played again, and again .... on the record player..... and he's doing the listening, and dancing, while on a SQUARE rebounder that we purchased forty years ago.

Was in my last year of high school driving out to Lowell through GG park in a two-tone '54 Caddie belonging to one Chris MacLaughln, working all night in a gas station on Lombard and Scott Streets, lots of Presidio guys working their off hours and lots of Viet Nam malaise. Redding was a great one, and his back-up band was not too shabby, either. Hope the East Bay is being good to you.

Don't let it get you down. After all, most teaching is a little like that, I think...In my real job I'm often surprised when sharp kids don't know knee bone-connected-to-thigh bone stuff even if they do know the origin of osteoblastic stem cells.

Mr. Redding sure did have one heckuva songwriting triumverate by the age of 26 when that darned plane crashed (Dock of the Bay, Respect, Try a Little Tenderness)

______
Danneau--

The East Bay is always good to us! (as long as we make a pilgrimage to our talisman, the Tilden Park Carousel).

Didn't get to the Cow Hollow in the City this time, but we did spend a little time in North Beach (we always have to eat and go to THE bookstore on Columbus) and we even headed out to the end of the Avenues because the Two E's are enamoured of 'Trouble Coffee' at 46th and Judah (for all the right reasons). Me, I always take a short walk on the beach.

Off topic RossK, but do you remember Barinder Sall, campaign organizer for Kash Heed, who ran an advertisement via Canada Post claiming that the BC NDP would introduce a Head, correction, .. an Inheritance Tax on Foreigners.

Correct me if I'm wrong .... but isn't the BC Liberals 15% property Tax that foreigner buyers are now required to pay, rectoactively, ... an Inheritance ... HEAD ... tax.

I suppose, Ross. I get the genius types that are extremely focussed on certain areas. Known many. Well rounded knowledge is rare today. Few seem to realize that we had a real depression in the 30's. Maybe I expect too much. Normally, I only expect politically correct verbosity.
Lol. Obviously, I need a long holiday. Perhaps, Southeast Asia!:-)
