This Week In NewHackland...The Egregiously Offensive Obliquely Opportunistic Vizzini Defense.

ThatWordVille

First, a few wise words of the good Docktor:

"He was sunk in despair. He was desperate... he called his equally depressed campaign manager and instructed him to.....accuse his high-riding opponent (the pig farmer) of having routine carnal knowledge of his barnyard sows, despite the pleas of his wife and children... His campaign manager was shocked. 'We can't say that, Lyndon,' he said. 'It's not true.' 'Of course it's not,' Johnson barked at him, 'but let's make the bastard deny it.'..."
Hunter Thompson, on Lyndon Johnson's 1948 Congressional Campaign

Next, a copy of the BC Liberal 'letter' obtained by Integrity BC's Dermod Travis:

Finally, the words of not-so idiot blogger Merv Adey:

...There were no dirty deeds by BCNDP HQ targeting the Liberals. There was no dissemination of private information by anyone except the BC Liberals themselves. The BCLiberals yesterday sent out a letter which in its first sentence tried to blame Independent MLA Vicki Huntington for the debacle caused by no-one but themselves.

Everything Christy Clark said in the last week on the subject of the hacking story was a falsehood...

Now.

Here's the thing...

The New York Times has decided to call lies exactly what they are when they are uttered by their country's present leader.

Our local Lotuslandian proMedia, who had their gong banged recently on a story that actually matters by that same New York Times (and who are having their gong rung once again this weekend by Macleans), should try doing the same thing.

Repeatedly calling out a lying liar for repeatedly lying, I mean.

And, more to the point, until our very finest of the fine proMedia does that, repeatedly, no more 'Oh woe is us because the public just won't listen' - type stories.

OK?

_______
Merv also recommends that you listen to 8 minutes with former shock-'n-rock jock Drex on 'NW who calls out Christy Clarks repeated lying for the malice-driven deflector spike spin that it really was...I agree that it is 480 ticks o' the clock worth giving up...
And, just in case you missed it, Mr. Mason's number on the local puffed-up punditry's scorecard nudged upward with yesterday's column, although the judges added technical demerits due to his refusal to go near the deflector spin issue.
And, finally, can you see the oblique Vizzini in the BC Liberal 'letter'?...

Dear Peter?????? isn't that another violation of the privacy act?

RossK said...

Well...

I thought about XX-ing that out, but reckoned there are enough Peters in BC not named Fassbender that the receiver (leaker?) of the letter is likely safe having their given name out there.

(plus, Mikey Mike, who now seems to be understanding how little CClark and the wizards thought of him when they tried to make him their cut-out, has been wurlitzering it around, but good, already)

Too bad Emile used his real name instead of just his position, another violation.

There's only one thing that doesn't ring true. Is the BC Liberal Party operatives eg. a Brian Bonney, working inside the BC Legislature using government resources (computers / internet/ time / $$$$) to do party politics, fund raising? Or, are they running scams by implying that they are seeking information on behalf of the Government of British Columbia's MLAs and then stripping out the contact info to pass along to the BC Liberal Party organizers in their ridings?

How it it that the BC Liberals are so intent on catching non-government MLAs or their staff accessing their BC Liberal Party site they've seemed to ignore the fact that there are more people outside of the Legislature than inside seeking answers from Christy Clark.

No excuse that can be given now can change the facts one iota. Christy Clark accused the NDP publicly of hacking their website. Nothing can change or reverse that.
She should be personally made to suffer the consequences of her stupidity!
Of coarse this is in the hands of the NDP now. In my opinion they should carry through and request of the RCMP to investigate and possibly charge Christy Clark for her flagrant attitude of the law.
Any less would be an injustice to the public for which they will equally guilty.
Mr. Horgan would do well to consider this.

The Drex piece posted on Mr. Adey's site is well worth listening to. Refreshing.

For Christy Clark to apologize to the NDP, will John Horgan have to pay $5,000 for a one on one private conversation with the Premier or $10,000?

"the consequences of her stupidity!" ??

. . . . not stupidity . . . sleaze!

You do know that if you can take Mike Smyth's URL that he received from Vicki Huntington ....and copy it into the WayBack Machine

Lordy that was satisfying to hear Drex call it like it is. Honestly, I have forgotten what it feels like to hear real media coverage. Ian Jessop used to do some good stuff on CFAX and he got shut down. And CFAX purged a bunch of other good reporters back in 2012.

Katie Hyslop did a couple of blisteringly good stories on the Tyee this week too about the lack of care for kids in care. And of real support to young people transitioning out of care. And there was another excellent Tyee article on the meaningless "protection" provided by the provincial government's employment standards branch.

I hope BC voters wake up this election, I think maybe they are. It feels like 1991 to me, like BC citizens want a change. Another four years of the BC Liberals and this province will *never* recover.

Thanks Ross for doing all you do. In solidarity!!

Don F., its e.a.f. The RCMP "investigate" surely you jest. this is the bunch of louts who signed a 20 year deal with the B.C. LIEBERALS to continue "policing" this province. If the B.C. government pulls out of any agreement, the federal force will have a huge problem with too many officers. B.C. knows it, the RCMP H.Q. knows it so nothing is going to be done in the way of an investigation.

It might also be important to remember the women who started the law suit against the RCMP were located in B.C. Yes, all of that went "un noticed" by our politicians. Its like there doesn't seem to be much in the way of morality, ethics, etc. amongst some of those who "run" this province.

What would Surrey do with that over the top bar and grill called the new headquarters? Use it to house the kids? Not likely.

This is not Quebec which does have a provincial, independent police force which conducts investigations. this is B.C. which has a nice co-dependency going on.

A number of years ago there was a fairly successful gang unit or some such thing. What did the b.c. lieberals do? disband it? why, they say to save money. did the RCMP scream blue bloody murder, NO. Then we got all that fun stuff called fent. and all those deaths and we've been behind ever since.

o.k. enough of this,

e.a.f. I think if you look at what I said is Horgan should "request' of the RCMP to investigate. If the RCMP choose not to is another issue, and I don't disagree with you that it probably not happen, but at least then the onus is on them to explain.
Are we to accept the status quo as you explain it? Am I foolish to you to expect a proper response to what Christy Clark has done?

e.a.f. said...

No you are not foolish. It is a reasonable request. however, the people who are running this province are not reasonable, in my opinion thus nothing will be done, nothing will be reported beyond in these blogs, etc.

Having watched this dog and pony show from the time the media were at Glen Clark's house in time for the evening news, while his family was home, I knew the handwriting was on the wall. Having lived in this province since 1951 and started reading about politics around 1956, I have seen and read a whole lot about B.C. politics. Nothing which is going on now surprises me. Disgusts me, but doesn't surprise me.

Not since the days of Summers going to jail, not much has happened to politicians who didn't do as they ought to have. Even as a child I was aware of what was going on, where people benefited, etc. In the early 1980s Bill Bennett, WAC's son disbanded the special units to deal with children and its been down hill ever since. At the time the Socreds wanted to save money. They certainly did. Then they paid it out in other ways ever since.

I have seen the dams being built and the fun and games that all created.

Not much changes in this province except the names and dates.
