Harvey And Barry O Both Go Full Metal Union.

MindMeldsAndTheStrangenessOf
BedfellowsVille

From Mr. Oberfeld's blog:

...I found Obama was at his intellectual best (during his speech to the UN General Assembly) in recognizing and dissecting a bigger world-wide problem … the growing dissatisfaction by workers in MANY developed nations with globalization of trade … and the growing gap between the rich and the rest of us...

{snip}

...“I do believe there’s another path — one that fuels growth and innovation, and offers the clearest route to individual opportunity and national success. It does not require succumbing to a soulless capitalism that benefits only the few, but rather recognizes that economies are more successful when we close the gap between rich and poor, and growth is broadly based.

“And that means respecting the rights of workers so they can organize into independent unions and earn a living wage. It means investing in our people — their skills, their education, their capacity to take an idea and turn it into a business. It means strengthening the safety net that protects our people from hardship and allows them to take more risks — to look for a new job, or start a new venture.”...

Imagine that!

Wow..a social conscious speech from the leader of the leading capitalist country on earth.
Seems there may yet be hope, from the greed and manipulation of the 1%. About time someone from that country spoke up, in an international forum...
Bravo!

Watched Miss Psycho with the Governor of Washington do a signing she had the most stupid grin on her lying yap just kept signing all the while looking with those lying eyes. Good on the President he,done his best.

With respect, I started refusing to read anything from Harvey since he started parroting some the alt-right's views on Muslims. I get that he's a strong supporter of Israel and while I understand there are divisions on how to best address the needs of both the Palestinians and Israelis, some of what Harvey has been saying veers too far into the Islamophobia camp for him to be considered progressive by any stretch.

Harvey, I'm pretty sure, is a Trump man. That does not mean everything he writes is crap of course.

I agree that it is important that a US president has said this in an international forum.

Ironically, of course, it is probably easier to start doing what Obama stated in many emerging countries than it currently is in the States.

I try my best to only point out the words, deeds and actions of our fine Premier. However, there are times when it is very difficult not to get really upset in the wake of same. For example, I really find that what she and hers are doing to PWD's be truly heartless.

I hear you. However, I agree with Beer's POV.

Did capitalism lose its "soul" someplace between imperialism and globalism?

Growth and innovation? Hmmm..., if we don't get a lot less of the former, we're gone need a whole lot more of the latter. Guess it's a sign of the times that we need either or both in a real big hurry---like yesterday.
