Gordo Agonistes

Maui, Hawaii

It's hard to argue with Ian King's positive take on Gordon Campbell's stepping up with a significant number of dollars for the South Asian Tsunami Relief.

Mr. King even goes so far as to suggest that anyone who objects to El Gordo's actions regarding this matter is a defacto dunderhead (or some such other less chatty crudity).

However, we cannot fail to note the hypocrisy in the following words from the Big 'G' spoken from his annual schlosh-a-cation in Hawaii.

"..... British Columbians take pride in celebrating together, and today they bring us together in mourning for those lost and those who are struggling to overcome this devastating tragedy."

All of which is fine, as far as it goes.

But what about the homegrown tragedies that are of His Gordness' Very Own Making. Like, say, the ideologically-driven, Doug Wall's-assisted dismantling of the Ministry of Child and Family Development, the latest result of which just may be this.

And don't forget.... the deep, deep cuts to Child and Family Development, along with other Ministries that help British Columbians overcome adversity and tragedy have continued unabated in the face of the mounting billions in surplus.

It's going to be very important to remember this massive tearing-up of our social safety net when Mr. Campbell and Minions head out on the hustings with their million dollar Spider-Silk patchkits designed to buy themselves back a Mandate with our own Money come May.
