The Whackadoodle, Re-Visited.

When C. decided to get her I was skeptical.

Not because I didn't want a dog.

But rather because I wasn't sure I wanted a little dog.

Especially an excitable little dog.

Well...

As you might expect, eleven plus years and 11,000 beach guitar walks later I have a hard time imagining what it would like to not have the Whackadoodle, whose real name is Rosie, by my side.

But, thanks to a congenital valve condition that is starting to catch up with her, Rosie is now starting to slow down as her heart enlarges and pushes on her trachea.

We still make it to the beach on Saturday mornings where the coughing subsides for awhile as the occasional stick is once again chased or dead crab is rolled in.

But on the ride home she's pretty tired and is then ready to sleep for most of the rest of the day.

Truth be told, I don't really know what we'll do when she's gone.

________
Her name, at least in part, comes from littler e's fondness for Springsteen's 'Rosalita'... Rosie came to our house in the summer of 2008; earlier that year the entire family went to see the Boss' circus when it came to town.

If you love dogs (or cats) you will say goodbye to several during your lifetime.

EG--

Indeed.

And we will remember them all.

So sorry to read "Rosie" is unwell. Loosing a pet is heart breaking. Miss the dogs and cat a lot more than the spousal units.
Dogs are such good company and loyal companions. Lots smarter than humans also.

Take care.

Best wishes and good health for Rosie.

Dogs aren't just pets - they're family. Our canine pal of 12 years passed over the "Rainbow Bridge" at the beginning of last June. Yes, life moves on, but we still miss him.

Take care.

Having our big boy Revy for a couple of years now for our own beach walks at the lagoon,I too dread that horrible day when we will have to say good buy.I hope it doesn't come for many more years! Hope we see Rosie again! Darren & Pam

SH here.

Life is such a pain in the ass. So sorry for little Rosie.

I mark the epochs of my life by the dogs we have had — and many 'eras' are starting to stack up. Our strategy has been to adopt another dog before they pass, so our wise elders can transmit their doggy knowledge to the new kid and provide comfort.

This saves so much work, and truly lightens the excruciating loss when it comes. The absence of a beloved dog, leaves a silence that cannot be filled by mere humans. The first thing I did when we lost our last old lady, was to go on a good long reflective walk in nature and throw sticks to the old lady's protege as if my life depended on it. It is restorative.

Think of you and your family.

We had to put down our beloved Niblet last Saturday. The fight was just gone from him. Had to carry him out side for relief breaks. Broke our hearts.
