Would Kevin McCarthy Willingly Sell-Out Ukraine To Bang A Gavel?

From Roxana Tiron et al. of Bloomberg News:

The emerging deal Kevin McCarthy is discussing to make him speaker of the House would propose a roughly $75 billion cut in defense spending at a time when the US is intent on backing Ukraine against the Russian invasion and grows more wary of China’s stepped up aggression toward Taiwan...

{snip}

...Some holdouts against McCarthy such as Rep. Matt Gaetz are also fierce opponents of continued military assistance for Ukraine, and have threatened to try to block additional aid...

Meanwhile, he was thinking (allegedly):

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) voted for former President Trump for Speaker of the House on Thursday, as the chamber held its seventh vote in three days in an attempt to elect a Speaker...

And how many votes did Mr. Trump ultimately receive?

You guessed it...

Not only would some of them cut the money from the budget, if McCarthy thought stopping all aid to Ukraine would give him the Speakership, he'd do it. If he thought annoucing Taiwan was part of China, ditto.

Don't think he ever had a true political agenda beyond becoming speaker and that is for the greater glorification of McCarthy. If/when McCarthy becomes speaker look forward to a lot of ugly stuff, to stay in office. He'd hand over europe to Russia, he'd terminate health care, social security, you name it, he'll do it. We saw that clearly during 6 Jan. The man takes vanity to a whole new level. It would have been more "beneficial" if he had come to a bi partisian agreement and get on with business, in an adult manner, as some American States have done. Catering to the "freedom caucus" is a bad mistake, like giving in to a teenager who insists they have control of the family vehicle, the bank account, and the kid is high on drugs.

Well, in December Congress approved a $858 billion military budget, $45 billion more than the Pentagon asked for. From that perspective, a $75 billion cut's a drop in the bucket.

That said, if the Taliban Twenty have shown nothing else it's that a guy who offers concessions and gets nothing in return doesn't have the negotiation skills to be House Speaker.
