Are polls taken outside the writ period of any use whatsoever?
Evan Scrimshaw thinks they are, and he uses the current state of play in British Columbia to make his point:
...Imagine how much worse our understanding of BC politics would be if we were unable to independently see that the BC Conservatives were more than a rump party for PPCers. It’s quite clear that Kevin Falcon’s rebrand to BC FC has killed the centre-right and is allowing for voters to have a better, clearer sense of the state of play. If the election ends up being close, as Liaison suggested last week, it’s possible Greens voters or moderate, federal Liberals who prefer BC FC provincially, may swing to the NDP to stop the insurgent Cons. I’m not saying that will happen, but it’s better that those voters have that info...
Hard to argue with that, I reckon.
Still, I hate to think that anyone would decide, at this point, where to park their vote, donate their money, and/or do their volunteering on the basis of the current polls.
OK?
_______
And, as a wee post-script...If Mr. Falcon's soccer club party really does vaporize, we just might be in for a gigantic strat-o-matic football-type discussion around here come fall.

Falcon is a dead bird in the Hurtlands because of the BC Rail sellout and this resonates strongly up North.
Eby's "Vision Vancouver Provincial" NDP is becoming toxic, with its entrenched elder abuse; antisemitism; and utter and complete arrogance over all things.
The police fiasco in Surrey, may cost them seats as there is a strong resentment about the demise of the RCMP. The "Eye" has seen some polling that he wasn't supposed to see and it is not looking good for NDP Surrey MLA's.
This leaves the anti-vaxer types in the Conservative party and the Greens.
I am sticking with the Greens, because they can't be any worse and maybe some real fresh faces will do some good.
To add to my previous moan; "Who the hell can we vote for"?
To be up front, I am a lefty, but the current NDP are not a party of the left, rather a squishy party for all the discontented. Eby is a Vancouver Visionest, who is continuing the madness of a land rush in Vancouver, which is increasing rents and leases and making housing all the more unaffordable. Eby is more and more becoming a the reincarnation of Bob Skelly!
As mentioned before, "have you had enough" Kevin Falcon is a Gordon Campbell clone and a big, big mistake. As I said before, BC Rail is the great divide up North and Campbell's and Falcon's sell out of said railway has left a generational rift. But the screw the taxpayer Liberals in this province wanted a continuation of the rape of BC's assets. The bird is cooked!
The anti-vax and bat-shit crazy Conservatives, resonates with a lot of people who are f***ing tired of the other two politcal parties and are open (for now) to almost all wing0nuts.
They are not MAGA, but our own homegrown outfit, weened in the Hurtlands.
The Greens, well what can one say, are another home-grown outfit, which makes more sense than the first three and the question for most voters is, you want to send a message tom the other three politcal parties, VOTE GREEN.
So the question for many this election will be should i vote the same way I have always voted and hope for different results or send a message. The Greens can't do any worse and they may be better than we thought.
You want to make the Greens into a reasonable facsimile of the NDP? just elect them to government. A far better option would be to abolish our first past the post system, and bring in proportional representation. Our present system will corrupt who ever is in power, and that's the way the powers that be like it.
Sadly, never going to happen as our politcal parties want complete power and as we all know, "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
I have my own vetch against Eby and I do know what he is, a politcal coward.
I am sorry to say, but he is, but......he is Premier and he can do all he wishes without fear of any dissent in his party. The NDP has become an antisemitic mini MAGA or Make BC Great Again.
Unless the Libs and the cons amalgamate, this lil dictator will have another 4 years to further destroy this province with the NDP's half baked ideas. The NDP's housing issues are laughable and designed to generate revenue and not deal with housing. The same is with the carbon tax.
Eby has no vision; the NDP's ideas are stale, and the party itself is becoming not toxic, but radio active.
The Greens will not be in power but I am hoping for 10 seats to legitimize the party, Falcon is a dead bird and the whack-a-do Conservatives will win more than 10 seats. The NDP will most likely win, but after the next four years they will be wiped out because the over-taxed public will revolt at the polls.

Voting in our backward first past the post system basically makes it so that voting for the least damaging choice.
that will keep me voting for the NDP.
In my mind, the Greens so little to no policies other than a mainly virtue signaling environmental policies that don't do anything, such as the idiotic idea like electric vehicles that are impractical. More counterproductive wokism is not something we need.
