By now you may have heard that the BC United Party sent an Email to its 'supporters' last Thursday begging for money:
...“The need is substantial — we must raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in the coming weeks to fulfill our obligations and ensure the party remains registered so that the membership will have the opportunity to decide what is next,” BC United wrote.
“Together, we have raised this amount of money before and we believe we can come together to do it again and make sure our community is made whole. There is no alternative. Either we raise the funds required to meet our commitments, or BC United will be unable to continue.”...
Gosh.
Maybe I missed it but...
When Mr. Falcon abruptly pulled his team from the field back in August, I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the 'membership' who decided anything whatsoever.
And besides, it is very likely that the 'membership' is now wondering what it is, exactly, that the current Soccer Party braintrust would like to 'continue' to do with their money.
Especially given that it would appear that approximately 19, 953 of the 20,000 party members had already decided that they did not wish to 'continue' to have anything to do with the party by the time Election Day rolled around back in the fall:

...(On election night) the party hosted a fundraiser featuring former premier Gordon Campbell at Vancouver’s Sutton Hotel. Invitations were issued to 20,000 party members, and it was billed as an election watch party. Inside, the mood was anything but celebratory, as Mr. Campbell addressed just 47 seated guests who bought tickets to the event...
Imagine that!

Quoted passage 1, above, is from a solid piece by Mike Vanden Bosch in the Fraser Valley Today.
Quoted passage 2, above, is from just the kind of insider access, clout club-type piece you would expect from Ms. Hunter in the Globe...I must admit, however, that I laughed out loud on the bus this morning when I read that only 47 of the former faithful were willing to pony up to attend the attempted resurrection of GordCo, 2.0...I quickly settled down when it became apparent that I was freaking out a number of the over-caffeinated kids nearby who were on their way to campus to study and/or write a final or three.
Image at the top of the post?...Why that's Mr. Campbell in the middle with Kevin Falcon grinning over the boss' left shoulder back in the spring of 2009 (i.e. the last of the post-BC Rail glory days of GordCo 1.0)...As for the venue?...Well, I figured EE might have a thing or two to say about that...
Off topic, but...If the context-free stories about recent events in South Korea have left you scratching your head, this piece in Foreign Policy by academic Lami Kim, will help clear things up for you...Essentially, the current leader Yoon Suk-yeol, the guy lawmakers have just impeached, tried to hold on to power by initiating a self-coup involving martial law that pulled the military back into things - which has happened before there with devastating consequences...
Finally, I was sad to learn that Owen Gray has decided to shutter his CanPoli blog 'Northern Reflections' due to health and other issues...Northern Reflections has been around just about as long as this little F-Troop blog and I've always admired, and often tried to emulate, how Owen responded to and engaged with his readers in the comment threads...

Hilarious. The 47 guests listening to Gordon Mugshot Campbell can be comforted with still having a party. They just don,t have any candidates.
That photo (and others like it) of Falcon and Campbell jostling for position to get their grinning mugs in the window on opening day always makes my stomach turn.
After years of deflecting any questions about issues like the budget or the Cambie Street merchants debacle by claiming they had nothing to say because it was a TransLink project, the public display of gall it took to grandstand like that upon its completion is just one of the reasons I enjoy their current financial predicament.
Somewhere in the distance, I hear Roy Orbison singing; "It's Over, It's Over, IT'S OOOOOOOVER!"
It's just another BC right wing feud, infighting between conservatives just as the new official opposition is doing!
There never was a "Liberal party'" it was always the Socreds a gathering of the vulture class .
The NDP are the new Liberals ; we've have nothing really left wing since Dave Barret.

PPS.
Was that Gordon Campbell and 46 CN executives at the fundraiser?

Gordon Campbell, who now seems wrote the primer for the current Mango Mussolini now waiting to grift the rubes down south, is the last person I would pay money to see.
The long term damage the Maui Wowie and the "have you had enough" bird did to the province has set back BC decades.
If only the the BC Liberal/United whatever instead chose Jas Johal as party leader, I think politcal history would be different today.
Now we are stuck with one premier and one leader of the opposition completely unfit for their jobs.
They want money do they? Well so does the food bank, Union Gospel Mission, salvation Army, etc. These organizations are worthy of donations. The bunch in the window, not so much. They have had a good crack at the till and now its time to leave the stage. some people never have enough money and I suspect el gordo wouldn't mind another crack at the vault, but why would the boys need more money. I'm sure there was some in the bank account when Falcon told every one the party was over. I'm sure they are up to something, perhaps something along the line of Rustad isn't going to make it in the next election either and they're hoping Eby crashes and burns and then el gordo can try for party leadership once again. With trump in the white house, who knows what B.C.'s little gang is up to. Planning for the future and how to get their hands on money, invites to the White House or Mar a logo.
Now those boys were involved in the "give away" of b.c. rail and there is still that short stretch which is in gov't hands, sort of. trump says he wants our water. I'm sure el gordo would make a deal with the orange one. This could be the last kick at the money can for some of them.
If there is any sign Smith next door can privitize and sell any of their health care system to Americans, I'm sure el gordo would like to get in on the deal making. Between the sale of B.C. Rail, the money laundering, who knows what exactly the balances were.
47 only. that is some what reassuring but one can never tell. We may see something when FIFA is here with their international bunch of ethically challenged old guys. If some of the old lieberal crowd shows up, watch them very carefully. O.K. I'm not a trusting person.
Sad to read Owen is retiring. Enjoyed his blog and recall some months ago he had written due to illness he would be posting less. He certainly contribute to a view point which was needed in Canada.
The third in your series of sleazy political money grubbing by those well practiced to do so .
Is the relegated to the beer league soccer party set up for crypto? if not advice on that subject is easy to find locally.

Rustad and crowd must be pissed off they missed that opportunity!
Eby's bunch are too naive to take the bait!
