How much of (Peter) Gzowski’s interest in people is an act?“I would say none,” he replies. “Some people would say a lot. A certain amount of feigning has to be involved, but if you feign long enough, anything eventually becomes interesting.”
Invoking the methodological secrets of long gone CBC radio morning man Peter Gzowski?
Well.
All is explained in the SongPod below (words first this time, followed by an old Tom Waits cover at the end)...
______
Word worm in the header?...It's a rip-off of the title of an early John Irving book...Although, to be completely honest, I argued with myself for quite some time about whether or not the comma in my version belonged.

My brother and sister-in law lived for a stretch on Morningside Drive in Fulford Harbour, she being a) a devotee of Gzowski and, b) a keen letter writer, leading to a bit of a broadcast bit of Morningside Drive on Morningside. It seems to me that she also squired PG around to Ruckle Farm and a couple of other curiosities. When I visit, I still get morning coffee in a Gzowski Morningside mug. Very cosy, and she certainly had no doubts about his genuine nature.

Get the heck out!
That is incredible. Is there any surviving audio of the bit?
If there is, I'm sure NVG will find it.

I still remember the guy with the chainsmokey voice, listened every morning.
Remember him well. Thank you for the memory refresher. It would be nice if we could hear some of his shows, they ought to be in the CBC vault somewhere. Wonder if there are any tapes of his shows and those of Webster and Mair? Wonder if they are on YouTube or some such thing.

I'll check with Mighty Mar and get back to you. They still live in Fulford, but have long since abandoned their abode on Morningside Drive.
Unfortunately, four packs a day at its most chained, apparently. He did manage to quit, after 50 years, but, in the end, all that accumulated tar and gunk and chronic inflammation blew out the air sacs in his lungs. And that killed him.

Resurrecting such audio and providing a little written word context, historical or otherwise, might be a fun project, indeed!

Thanks for that TB!
Here's the link all, to the first hour of Mr. Gzowski's last show.

Thanks NVG--
36 boxes of readers letters in that archive!
Might be worth a trip to Montreal, and to the Concordia archives, to just to wade through all that.

Here is a link via Mar's Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xbp2xm8sH4pqjl_2kdl0dskKxj1vj_fS/view?usp=drive_web let me know it there's a problem with it.
