WhereHaveAllTheToriesGone
LongTimePassingVille
Yesterday we were ruminating about how the Conservative Reform Alliance Party cannot win as currently constituted because they are a faux facsimile of the former 'Tory' party.
And now, it would appear that some of a conservative bent may have become emboldened enough to start ruminating for a move back toward the (progressive?) center...

Personally, I wonder if a rabid base unchained (and constantly prodded by well-funded rebellers and strongists) can be restrained by reason.

Don't think the Conservatives have to start a new party. they just need to do the hard work to return the party to what it once was, Progressive Conservative. There are people, who vote Liberal because the Conservatives are out of touch with the world as it is today. there are those who won't vote for them because of their position on the LBGTQ community, or their stand on weed, or their anti abortion threat--its always in the back of some of our minds and a few other things.
Paul Martin, actually he reminded me of a nasty Conservative and not a Liberal. Mulroney was more "progressive" than Paul Martin, in my opinion.
Would lefties ever vote for a Conservative? Thought about it. As it stands now, NO. If it were truly a Progressive party, and the Liberals had gone the way of rack and ruin and it was a strategic vote, Yes, I would hold my nose and do it. Paul Maring may have "balanced" the books, but at what cost. I'd have rather voted for Joe Clark or Mulroney--even after reading Stevie Cameron's book, if there were only the two choices.
the P.C.s can take back their party. they just need to work at it and get rid of guys like Kenny. Yes, it would help if Harper and presto were gone, but politicians being politicians, they all want to hold office. Given what happened to the PP Party, there is an argument to be made, the conservtives will not be in government until they change their way. At some point Trudeau is going to retire or go off and do something else, perhaps when the kids hit their teens. We don't know who will take over, so the Conservatives might want to start amending their platform and looking towards the future, if they want to form Government. If they want to sit around and bitch fine, I'm good with that also.
