Late last week we noted the hardening of Trumpian fascism when his, and his lickspittles, decided to neuter the American CDC while simultaneously taking 'possession' of COVID19 data.
And that was before he and his lickspittles sent anonymized camoflage-clad federal agents into Portland to flood the streets with tear gas as well as scoop people up and throw them into unmarked white vans.
As for now?

When the smoke clears, both literally and figuratively, norms and traditions will have to be replaced with tooth-filled legislation.

That's the thing a Biden administration, which is sure to triangulate as well as try and reach out across the aisle to a Republican party that will still be full of Republicans, will very likely most probably not do.

some of the Republicans won't. They want this, a white led dictatorship restricting rights for women and people of colour. On the other hand, there are Republicans who will see this as a situation which will reduce the amount of money they can make, have and will take action. those billionaires are doing fine. they've purchased a lot of land in the center of the U.S.A. they don't want Trump pulling a putin, where he took their money and all they escaped with was perhaps a 100M here or there and their lives. No the billionaire class is not stupid, well some of them are, but some know Trump doesn't have a mind for business and he isn't a billionaire.
Given some of the far right Republicans who are running, some may stay home and not vote. Some of those Republicans also have some very deep dark secrets. some of them might be released, prior to an election. Sessions didn't win the primary, I'd love to see what was being whispered about him.
As to Trump loosing the election and not leaving office, that is going to be a real problem Would be nice to see some one from Congress go up and arrest him and Barr. Hey a person can dream. it maybe that he may also simply be shot.

Including doing everything possible to monkey wrench mail in voting.

RossK, that would indeed be unfortunate.
One would think that after being the subject of the hunt for dirt that got Trump impeached, Biden might have noticed that it is easier than previously thought for a Trumpesque creature to put the United States into a tyrannical death spiral.
Checks and balances turned into smoke and mirrors when the going got tough. Since it’s apparent that a lack of spines was the weak link, stiffening up the legislative backbone might make it easier for some to see and do their duty.
