Even though our dog, the Whackadoodle, is no longer with us, I still like to get up early on Saturday mornings and head down to where the Fraser river meets the ocean to go for a long walk out on the spit with the beach guitar in tow.
Mostly it's major chord, top of the neck stuff, as is my want and inclination.
Anyway, last weekend, as I was leaving before dawn's first light, I heard an instantly recognizable rhythmic whacking not far off in the distance.
It was a young kid up the street standing on his front porch banging his cleats together.
Boyhood winter days spent playing games on grass, with or without pads, came flooding back as I hopped into the car and headed first South and then West in what is now my Hometown...

Same to you and yours Ross, thankful that 2020 is in the past. Many thanks for what you write and what you do.
I thoroughly enjoyed almost all of this expansive 2-Cd set. Like the Beatles and Dylan, Springsteen’s library lends itself so well to many different types of music. For the most part, the artists on this double disc are artists who record in similar vein to Bruce. And for the most part many of the bands are not house-hold names. This makes for an exciting listen for the most part. Some of the artists rework a Springsteen classic in their own light; which brings a freshness to an old warhorse like "Badlands" (zydeco) or "Bobby Jean", from a female perspective, nicely handled by Jennifer Glass here. I often still enjoy Dion DiMucci, and he doesn’t disappoint here on "Book of Dreams", other highlights for me, were Lucky 7 in "Candy's Room", "State Trooper" by Steve Wynn on the first disc. Side two opens with perhaps the best known artist on the set, Elvis's countrified "Brilliant Disguise" nicely, Willie Nile’s take on "I'm on Fire", the ever-great, Patty Griffin on "Stolen Car" and a touching take on "Secret Garden" from Canadian, Tom Cochrane and friends.
