Will We Never Be Rid Of These Fine Folks?

It looks like the dregs of the Soccer Party, led by the fine fellow who first helped put Kevin Falcon in charge of the provincial version of the party and who later made Mr. Sim the Mayor of Lotusland, now wants to put the band back together with the old name from the back in the GordCo days.

Postmedia's Cheryl Chan has the story, such as it is, here: (web archive link):

Kareem Allam, a longtime political strategist who helped propel ABC Vancouver to power, is launching the city’s newest political party with a goal of unseating Ken Sim, the mayor he once served as chief of staff.

Allam — ABC’s former campaign manager and more recently, its most outspoken critic — has publicly mused in recent weeks of running for office and had set up committees made up of mostly former B.C. Liberals to gauge the level of support he’d have in
a run.

On Thursday, the Vancouver Liberals was officially registered with Elections B.C...

Gosh.

If you've been paying attention lo these many years you just might think that the folks who have their thumbs affixed to the media wurlitzer 'round here have a vested interest in forever suckering the local citizenry into this so called big, beautiful faux centrist tent.

Or some such thing.

Gosh indeed! also Sim is suing both Kareem Allam, and Alex Tsakumis for defamation. The excellent Bob Mackin is on the case!

Memo to BC Liberals or whatever you call yourselves - Gordon Campbell was a disaster for this province, a mini Trump before the actual mango Mussolini. All Campbell was interested in was destroying the Unions (it should be noted the attack of the hospital unions and franchising out of the cleaning, coincided, untold people dierd of this and many more, including the "Eye" himself suffers from the ravages of this deadly disease. with the deadly spread of MRSA Infections in BC hospitals.

BC Rail left the Interior at the mercy of CN Rail and killed any chance of BC doing anything about Global Warming and Climate change. This also defined the interior as the "Hurtlands" and i can go on and on. Campbell's and Falcons NeoLiberal/fascistic program has now left BC in tatters with chronic drug abuse, poverty and more.

The NDP, so bereft of any social influence has carried on Campbell's legacy of tax and spend, and general despair. The NDP are in the same moral morass as Sim's ABC, Rustad's Conservatives most regional mayors and councilors.

A new party will offer nothing but old stale ideas, hyped on Dead Dog 98, the legacy print media, the Fox News North crowd at the local TV Stations and highly paid influencers on social media.

What is needed will not be done. Big business will ensure that it will not be done.

Even wooden stakes or silver bullets and garlic don't work on this crew!

None are Liberals.

Sadly, real Liberals are like the boomers, dying out and fast.

NeoLiberals are the name of the game but Neo Liberalism is dying out just as fast as Trump is shredding neoLiberalism fast.

Today's politic is all about power, gaining power and retaining power. The only ethical politcal party are the Greens and even they are teetering on the abyss.

EE--

There are all kinds of issues with that defamation case that are, in my view, problematic, including the original public accusation. Thus, I'm not going to comment on the specifics the case. However, separately, it is most interesting to note that Bob Mackin notes that Mr. Tsakumis is "a longtime acquaintance with whom he (Allam) is politically aligned", which, in my opinion, only further demonstrates the co-optation of the 'Liberal' term in the name of the good Mr. Allam's new civic political party.

Is this the old carlot coalition? (Socreds)?

sounds like it. The beast who refuses to die. There was money in it back in the day and of course first on the ferry. selling cars simply isn't as lucrative as it once was but being in government, well that was like hitting the jack pot. Some of the old Socred types have been out of the game for a long time. Some of the right wing players aren't doing the job they ought to so, they may think bringing back the "good old days" will put them back in the money train.
