The Supremes have ruled on the Trinity Western College 'covenant' thing. Here is the lede from the MoCo:
A B.C. Christian university has lost its legal battle over accreditation for a planned new law school, with a Supreme Court of Canada ruling today saying it's "proportionate and reasonable" to limit religious rights in order to ensure open access for LGBT students.
In a pair of 7-2 rulings, the majority of justices found the law societies of British Columbia and Ontario have the power to refuse accreditation based on Trinity Western University's so-called community covenant.
The mandatory covenant binds students to a strict code of conduct that includes abstinence from sex outside of heterosexual marriage.
The majority judgment said the covenant would deter LGBT students from attending the proposed law school, and those who did attend would be at risk of significant harm.
It found the public interest of the law profession gives it the right to promote equality by ensuring equal access, support diversity within the bar and prevent harm to LGBT students....
Which is a good thing, of course.
Especially when, according to a TWU spokesthingy I heard on the MoCo radio news earlier this morning, one of the school's arguments was that 'diversity' should be able to deal with their bigotry (the same argument kinda/sorta is made by a faculty member in the piece linked to above).
Sheesh.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that the Supreme Court of Canada has now reversed a few decisions that the Appeals Court of BC has ruled on. I never paid much attention until the SOC ruled in favour of the BC Teachers Union a couple of years back in less time than it takes POTUS to contradict himself in a tweet.
I guess what I'm trying to say is "Do we have an Appeals Court of BC that is up to the task of carrying out their duties in a proper and lawful manner"?
Something just doesn't smell right as far as I'm concerned.
crankypants that is why I'm opposed to that university having a law school. They become lawyers with their attitudes and then become judges and that is part of how the U.S.A. became such a f..ked up place, too much religion in law and politics.
we have only to look at Sessions quoting Paul in Romans as his rationale for ripping children away from their parents. its the same clause the slavers used to justify slavery. Religion and politics always end badly or haven't we seen enough in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Israel, etc.
I for one am extremely happy about the Supreme Court decision. those lawyers in the appeal court of B.C. got their via the B.C. Lieberals and there is more than one bible belter in the B.C. lieberal party, given they look more like Harpercons.
