How The Wurlitzer Works...Post Alberta Election Pipeline-A-Palooza Edition.

After Jason Kenney brushed off an unexpected* stomping from Charles Adler prior to returning the Albertalands to their rightful owners, John Ivison quickly set the anti-Lotuslandian Wurlitzer throttle to eleven in the pages of the NaPo:

...While many voters want the premier-designate to attempt diplomacy before turning off the taps that supply British Columbia, the study suggests voters are prepared to “take meaningful action to bring the B.C. government to heel.”...

Which is all fine and good considering the friendly concerned.

But what, exactly, is this 'study' that the good Mr. Ivison refers to?

Hmmmm...

Let's go back and check:

...A new study of public opinion in Alberta by communications firm Navigator, based on eight post-election focus groups, suggests Albertans want premier-designate Jason Kenney to get very aggressive very quickly when it comes to taking on the federal government, environmentalists, intransigent provinces and anyone else who gets in the way of their quest to build an oil pipeline to new markets...

****

Gosh.

Did you see what I saw?

The fine folks from an even finer spin doctor factory...errrr... 'communications firm' ran some focus groups.

In other words, there was no poll.

And there was no sample size or indication of the subset of the population sampled.

And there was no estimation of potential validity.

And there no margin of error.

And thus there was, essentially, nothing.

And yet Mr. Ivison was only too happy to fling the prop that was pushed his way with great vigour.

Surprised?

*Allegedly.

Okay, Ross, let's just admit right up front: the Alabambertans bought a pee in a poke!
Jason only sees Alberta as the first stepping stone to his rightful place in Canada, and that is to be Prime Minster of the whole country, not just another right wing nut case peddling dilbit like it was just the same as gold from the 1890's in the Yukon.

They still don't understand its not OIL anymore, its some sort of sludge masquerading as oil and they want that parked precariously in our harbour and henceforth out to sea where the real problemms can occur (and come back to haunt is at our shore and the bazillion dollars that WE are expected to do the cleanup which is not even cleanable!

We are friends with many Albertans (snowbirds, doncha know) who were all in for Trump and have now discovered that was shortsighted, but they haven't quite figured out faux evangelicals do not have a working knowledge of the truth either. Jason is a miserable little shite-poke who, it seems, has no problem tweeting from Mass when he sees a suitable political advantage. I wonder if he missed the prayer segment when he was punching those little letters in his "hand held device"? If you know what I mean!

Lulymay--

Good to hear from you!

The spectre of a Prime Minister Kenny is terrifying that I almost hope that the wee malevolent Andy S. wins the big enchilada just to keep Mr. K landlocked in the Albertalands.

Almost.

Now that was a fun read, while listening to C & W singer, Larrie White. As good as I was to you. perhaps those in Alberta might want to listen to the song, because we in B.C. can do more damage, then they can. They can try to turn off the taps, but really, then none of their tar will be exported. They won't receive a penny from their "product". We will simply pay more and import it.

many aren't going to be happy about that and cause more than one family some financial discomfort, however, we will survive. That tar they export, it has to be refined first and most of it goes to other countries. If the price is right other countries will come through Panama. Yes, it will cost us more, but we will adjust, just as Europe always has. If anyone is watching Borgen on Knowledge network, you will see the former P.M. riding her bike every where. Yes, everything is closer in Europe. Even in China people are riding their bikes again. (some want cleaner air) Some roads are being converted to bikes only.

High gas prices and we could see a lot of motorcycles on the free way of life instead of cars. Alberta may also not realize vehicles are much more fuel efficient these days than they were even a few years ago.

What Kenny may not realize, if he turns off the taps it may give Horgan and Weaver the thing they have wanted, a much more popular profile, if they work it right. They've been filmed driving in their electric cars, now just think if all those MLAs got on their bikes. Yes, B.C. made the transition. Kenny hasn't picked the best time to start some sort of war because we are heading into good weather, where it will be easy to use alternatives like bikes and motorcycles.

Kenny is test driving what he thinks will get him to the leadership of the Cons. The people of Alberta don't seem to understand he will flush them away like yesterday's .........and leave them like an object in an old C. & W. song.

Yesterday went to fill up vehicle one. On the Island that is an extra $20. Not going to change how I drive. For those who have to commute in G. Van. it may be different, but we will survive. That is what some in Alberta don't understand. yes, Gloria Ganyors' old get even song, I will survive.

expect to see more of the b.s. put out by various organizations how B.C. will die if Kenney turns off the taps. My take on it, we will see more Albertans in Nanaimo. Albertans have a chance to move their tar economy to something else, but Kenney may be so far us oil's ass, he can't see any more. We can keep the tar sands going, at a much lower constant rate and leave it at that. Use the stuff in the west, build a refinery. Done.

Kenney maybe have giving Trudeau the boost he needs for the upcoming election. Its not like the federal Liberals have that many seats in Alberta anyhow. We've seen the change in PEI and if that is the new model, Alberta is left in the last century. Even Ford has said the flooding in Ontario could be due to climate change. he may still go ahead with his carbon tax law suit but he has seen the light and said the words, even if he doesn't mean it.

thanks for the post!

p.s. the ticker tape on the news channel said the McGuire group was pulling out of Canada.........perhaps the loss of B.C. was too much for them...........

Why don't we (BC) turn off the condensate taps to Alberta?
Without BC's condensate their bitumen won't pump! Then all they'll be able to push through their pipeline is refined product like gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. And maybe we won't even buy THAT!
