When The Skies Of November Get Gloomy

One thing that never changes for me is the fact that in mid-summer, when everything is wide open, bright and easy, I can never imagine it ever being grey, wet, windy and winter.

Heckfire. Two weeks ago I couldn't imagine it ever being winter.

But the weather has changed, as has the time, and winter is most definitely almost here.

****

Growing up in a mid-sized city on the edge of the rain forest winter for me essentially meant a change in sports, road hockey in the dying light, and, occasionally, soaked socks.

As for the danger lurking in gale force winds, maybe once in awhile there would be a trip on the ferry when things got a little rough.

But for my Dad, taking all those trips on tow boats up and down the coast, I can only imagine how many times a cook had say it was too rough to feed the crew - and all that entailed.

Anyway, here's a cover of Mr. Lightfoot's ode to the wrath of November gales on the Great Lakes...

Big story by Jim Rutenberg in this weekend's New York Times Magazine all about how it was Mr. Putin's plan, right from the start, to have his good friend Mr. Trump and a cowed Republican Party first split and then neuter Ukraine, effectively satelliteizing it forever...Will this, and all that has followed, including Mr. Putin's continuing attempts to annex Ukraine by force, not to mention his efforts to disrupt the world's political and economic order, matter one bit come Tuesday's US'ian midterm elections?...Sadly, I fear not...

Keeping in mind that Repubs live by the dictum that it isn't who votes that counts, but who counts the votes. I've already had confirmation of receipt of an absentee ballot and am reasonably sure that it will be counted, but mostly because that vote is in SF, as opposed to Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida or another state where the apparatus of elections is at least influenced, if not controlled, by exclusionist Republicans.

Agreed, this time it might not matter how you vote, its if the vote is counted.

If the Republicans "win" and have enough control to stop shipping armaments to Ukraine things will not end well for the U.S.A. A Russia in control of Europe will enventually control the USA. on the other Xi isn't that enamoured by Putin these days. He's clearly said he would not be happy if Putin nuked Ukraine.

If the U.S.A. goes isolationist, we can only hope the rest of the countries will pick up the slack

Of course not every one in russia is happy with Putin these days and who knows he might not last, which in any case would be a blow to the Republicans, well some of them.

As for Trump, he's old, out of shape and might not last. Of course there is the gov. of Florida which won't be much better.

I'll be glued to the t.v .tomorrow.

I've always liked that song even if it was sad. Lightfoot is incredible. Was listening to some of his early work and his voice was so pure.
Living on the coast most likely is why many of us like the song, its a remind of what the ocean or large lake can do.

We are now at winter, saw a snow flake this morning, then a few more, then it was rain again. I'd had it with all the sun, but now that we are in winter and its rained a bit, I wouldn't mind some sun again,

Danneau--

It will be interesting to see if the US'ian electoral system can withstand the onslaught of challenges to absentee and mail-in ballots in those states if things are close.
