Will B.C.'s Next Land Spec Boom Be...

...Farms?

From the latest in 'Western Investor':

"...British Columbia is the only western province that has no restrictions on the foreign ownership of farmland..."

I mean.

Perhaps we could just have no rules for the sale of absolutely everything, water, snow and sand included, 'round here?

That way we can sell absolutely everything to the highest bidder and live off the sky-high equity that we can then pass on to our great-great-great grandchildren in perpetuity.

Because...

Bubbles!

Even if we have new Liberal agriculture foreign property ownership rules, well... given this government's track record they would probably be very lame, too little - too late and be side stepped anyway. A Special Commission would eventually be called for to 'understand' the problem by which time there will be nothing left to protect and the laundering capatilist will be on to their next feeding frenzy.

Run of River Hydro, Public Private Partnerships (energy, Infrastructure, transportation etc.), residential real estate bubble, LNG?, now farm land properties to foreigners and after the frothy feeding frenzy who knows what next.

BC is truly the Wild West under the Liberal Pirates.

I think it's already being bought up, believe me, and I don't believe it's china.

Friends of BC Liberals have been buying ALR farmland for years and that is why the corporate media has been demonizing Vancouver's housing market. The signs are there folks - CC is going blow up the ALR just in time for the the election.

Just gonna say, no highest bidders here, looks as though it goes to contributors to CC's slush fund, er, BCLib coffers and then let go for a song (likelynot even played on a ukulele).

Does Canada have an uncontrolled immigration policy?
Privitization and commercialization of public school system?
Fire sale everything must go?

Up in Kelowna, a chunk of land was recently turned down for removal from ALR (surprisingly) for housing development. Who was behind the application? The Bennett family.

Already under way.

Europeans started buying up farm land in the late 1960s and early 1970s although most of them moved over here, but not all. They were worried about what would happen to a divided Berlin and the impact it would have on the rest of Europe.

it will be easy to buy up the farm land and when food becomes a more scarce commody than oil, you can bet the food will be grown and exported even if Canadians were starving.

Christy and her developer friends have been frothing at the bit to get rid of the ALR all along. Just wait. they'll dress it up as a plan for families to have affordable housing, but it will all be sold to foreign buyers.

I think the first to be pulled out is the land in Delta between the ferry terminal and the tunnel. when el gordo made arrangements for the highway to be built, it was like it took a chunk out of each farm. You can't find a straight through way around there. the farm land heading towards White Rock will come out also. the next to go will be out in Langley. Oh, just watch who has been buying up what. Follow the money.
