The Omicron variant appears to be less serious than previous variants but more transmissible.

Seems to me this offers a way out of the pandemic. Let Omicron go and push out other variants. Then we're left with a less serious infection. Use vaccination as a mop-up tool.

Yours is an interesting perspective that E. Topol has dealt with. His concern that even with milder symptomatic disease, overall, the potential for much more widespread transmission could be an issue for many health care systems.

And while I agree with your point about vaccination, a big issue world-wide, at least at the moment, is the apparent need for the booster which is going to strain things.

That could change if vaccines against variants come on-line, however.

I should have added that my comment is based on my limited information about Omicron. I have recently heard that nobody has died or even been hospitalized by Omicron. This is hard to believe, but if true, Omicron is more like the common cold.
