What was the mayor, Mr. Ken Sim, saying about all this before Christine Boyle forced the city to acknowledge the result of the secret vote.

...Asked at a news conference earlier this week about the status of the living wage policy, Sim said: "We're committed to making sure that the City of Vancouver is competitive in terms of wages, benefits and work environment. And so what we need to do is look at these things holistically, and it's our goal to be a best employer…and we will do everything we can to be a best employer."...

Competitive with who?
For a new politician, Sim has learned the art of mixing a lot of bull s**t with obfuscation and nonsense very quickly.
It is up to the reporters to keep his fingers to the fire - so to speak. DJF
So now that Vancouver city is sort-of dropping the living wage policy, I guess they are adopting a non-living wage policy. I wonder if that will be in the glossy brochures enticing people to live in Vancouver.

I'd have a lot more respect for the guy if he was upfront about all this.
But, unfortunately, in our modern world it would appear that BS + Obfuscation = (Re) Electability...Locally, the earliest foreshadowing of this equation came in the form of a plaid-shirted Mr. Gordon Campbell.

And all those new police officers will be giving them out, hand over fist, at every corner within walking distance of the nearby cruise ship docks.

If the NPA couldn’t win, the fix was as simple as ABC, Would Sim have won running on a platform of 11.9 taxes and lowering wages.
Here we go. the assault on poverty reduction. What a joke. Vancouver has some of the highest rental rates in the country and Sims thinks we don't need a "living wage"? This does not make Vancouver more "competitive". It impoverishes the people who work and live in Vancouver.
Given the cost of living, lowering wages doesn't encourage people to work in Vancouver. Perhaps Sims is trying to regain the title B.C. had when el gordo and christy were premiers: highest rate of child poverty in canada for 14 of 15 years. When you lower wages you do impoverish children. Lets not look at this as making Vancouver "competitive" but ensuring some children aren't going to be fed properly, have a decent place to live, or winter clothings.
Thank you Mayor Sims you have shown who you truly are: just another b.s. politician who thinks its o.k. for children to live below the poverty line and have insufficient clothings, food, housing, etc.
