....The Greedheads Win The Pennant!

Out on the far western edge of Vancouver, they're clearing the Endowment Lands and getting ready to build the next set of building million dollar townhouses.

Of course, that land used to be ours - all of ours.

And, then there's this.

VANCOUVER/CKNW(980) - The GVRD has decided UBC's proposed high rise towers do not violate the district's official community plan...which means the remainder of the towers will be built.

The controversial towers have been the subject of years of debate because of their proximity to Wreck Beach.

James Loewen of the Wreck Beach Preservation Society argued the towers would threaten the landscape and the "environmental sanctity" of the beach.

They wanted to see the towers limited to 14-storeys.

But the GVRD has approved one 18-storey and one 17-storey tower to complement the one that was already built.

"The GVRD did not really stand up for it's right to protect it's parkland from the visual encroachment of UBC's buildings."

The GVRD has the final authority over planning on the campus and around Wreck Beach.

Where will it end?

When they finish building the luxury jet-boat jettys at the foot of Spanish Banks?

Would it have been different with the old GVRD Board? Maybe, maybe not. As someone who has tried to stop these people from selling off our land to the highest bidder, I'm not so sure, although from what I saw Raymond Louie was one who was willing to hold their feet to the fire.
