Gordon Campbell Implies That It Would Be "Irresponsible" Not To Give Private Clinics The Flu Vaccine

Please Note....There Is An Update at the Bottom of the Post
______

Here it is, straight from the Premier of (All?) of British Columbia(n)'s mouth as reported by the Sunny Dhillon in the Canadian Press:

....British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell was asked about the private clinics while at an unrelated event Monday (Nov 2/09). He told reporters the province must do all it can to get the vaccine out to high-risk groups.

"I think that we would be irresponsible not to use all the deliveries of health services to make sure that we deal with this challenge as we come ahead," he (Campbell) said....

But here's the thing.

If a high risk person that didn't have, say, $3900 was to walk into the private Copeman Clinic this morning, would that person be able to get that shot that Canada's publically-funded vaccine program was designed to deliver to them.

Well....

Here's what the CP report had to say about that late yesterday:

....Chris Nedelmann, chief operating officer for Vancouver-based Copeman Healthcare Centre, confirmed the private clinic is offering H1N1 vaccine to its members, some of whom pay up to $3,900 a year for membership.

But Nedelmann said the vaccine is only being made available to those in high-risk groups, just as it would be at a doctor's office....

So.

Mr. Campbell can invoke obfuscatory pretzel logic all he likes, but if that high risk person without the $3900 can't get that vaccine this morning, it would, in my opinion, indicate that the Government of British Columbia's OVERT decision to give private clinics the vaccine is actually IMPEDING the delivery of the vaccine to high-risk groups.

And, again in my opinion, that would be both irresponsible and immoral.

****

Now.

Why did I say 'OVERT' above?

Well....

There is a private Copeman Clinic branch plant in Calgary Alberta, right?

And as we reported yesterday, private clinics in Alberta apparently do not have any of the vaccine, right?

And the decisions about where, and to whom, the vaccine is delivered are made by Provincial governments, right?

Right.

Double Secret Probation Update, Tues Nov 3rd @ noon PST: It appears that the owner of the private Copeman Clinic himself, Dr. Donald Copeman, today answered my question regarding who would NOT receive the vaccine. And the answer is....You've got to be at high risk of complications associated with the flu AND a member of his elite, $3,900 dollar-assisted club....
