If Ken Ballaooffie Is Leading The Band Tonight...

....He'll Have Them Play One For 'The Pauser'.

The Pauser was a raving maniac with just enough of a sense of humour, sardonic wit, and the weird, twisted insight of a mythical, rampaging Paddy Ginnell hopped-up on cowboy coffee and Crown Royal that he often made things interesting when he called up Lotuslandian sports talk radio shows to harangue the hosts, Brian Burke, and/or anybody who didn't think that Cliff Ronning should be the Vancouver Canucks first-line center in perpetuity.

The Pauser's first arch-nemesis, who actually named him, was Dan Russell starting back, as near as I can figure it (and/or remember), in the late '80's and ending a couple of years ago after an extended stay in the penalty box.

Personally, I was always partial to 'The Poet' myself, a gentle old soul from Parksville, I think, who could come up with rhyming couplets for just about anything.

But still, if Russell mentioned that the Pauser was on the line, even I would wait through the next set of commercials from Kermac Collision and Budget Brake and Muffler before I banged the snooze button before bed.

****

Anyway.....

The Pauser is gone now.

(he passed away recently according to Mr. Russell)

But his memory will live on forever.

Because, apparently, Pat Burns has him on the line.....

"Go ahead, Pause!"
