I am assuming that you are referring to the following as quoted by the NYT's Guy Lawson in 2015:

The thing is, what many folks of a certain reactionary bent fail to mention (unless they do so mockingly) is what Mr. Trudueau also told Mr. Lawson:

One more thing...And this will also propel Carney to a majority...NDP voters are bailing on the party and switching to Liberals....They are doing this because they fear a Con/PP government.....After the election....NDP will pick a new party leader.
After the Trump threat vanishes....NDPers will come back the to party...but as of now.....Liberals are a lock...Bank it
