Michael Harris reports in The Tyee that the president of the CPC riding association in the bell weather riding of Pontiac Quebec has sent up a trial balloon:
...“Churchill was called out of retirement to take control of a desperate Britain in the autumn of 1939. Sometimes the man seeks the position. Sometimes the position seeks the man. Canadians need to draft Stephen Harper into service again.”...
Because......Austerity Uber Alles!
Good grief.

The halo over Winnie's pate has a few dents and scratches, apparently, what with Gallipoli, going all Madeleine Allbright with his mustard gas in Mesopotamia and redirection of grain out of India under famine conditions. He was a wit, a trait missing from our dear Stephen (not that he's entirely witless, but he has more of a sense of dourmour than humour, except when the joke's on us), but we need wit that's used in the service of public good and not necessarily as defined from a seat in the House of Lords.
Danneau--
'Sense of dourmour'
Now that is a most apt term.
Hope all is well with you and yours!

An exhumed Churchill would likely poll better than Harper.
Lew--
I have a feeling that a Churchillian cigar band might, also.
.
Mulroney right? literally and figuratively but mot metephorically?
Lew, thank you for the laugh of the day. You're correct, in my opinion, Churchill dead would poll better than Harper.
Harper doesn't want MacKay to be leader but the other ones aren't going to get elected.
Austerity, yes, just what Canadians want, mass poverty, just like we're seeing in the U.S.A., Russia, Brazil. it is doubtful any one will be able to unseat the Liberal govt. for some years to come. we may read some people aren't happy with them, but everyone I speak with, including those with more "right wing" political beliefs are happy with what the federal Liberals are doing for the people of Canada.
if the federal Conservatives want to try to be re elected any time in Trudeau's life time, they might want to have a look at Ford. Never liked him or his politics, but once COVID hit, they guy seems to be doing a decent job and every one I've spoke to has been impressed. He looks scared "shitless" when he is on t.v. and perhaps that is why he is doing well. He truly understands the problem.
If we had harper as P.M. or any of his ilk, we'd be in a similar position to the U.S.A. Right now most people who aren't working are in receipt of some sort of financial support from the government. I'm just happy that the kids in this country aren't going hungry like they are in the U.S.A.
Harper mentions "free enterprise", well if we're going to have that, no subsidies for any businesses and there goes a lot of small businesses. Free enterprise, no money for those corporations in quebec or the oil monsters in Alberta. Absolutely no tax write offs for equipment purchases, etc. No subsidies for anything to do with business. What harper and his ilk want is no social programs for human beings only for corporations.
Canadians got rid of Harper before he was able to do more harm to Canada and take it down the same road trump has taken the U.S.A. Its all our programs which has kept our citizens afloat during this pandemic. Harper needs to go back into his closet and stay there.
As to the deficient, we'll back to pay it down, but when that starts, most Canadians will know they benefited from creating it.
e.a.f.--
The key, me thinks, as to whether or not this 'draft Harper' thing becomes real is to watch to see if the surrogates supporting the good Mr. O'Toole suddenly scramble back behind the curtain....
.
Christy Clark for cons? from a P3 to a C3 po.?
I have thought that was possible, that some are thinking of a 'draft'. Just thought I was nuts, but desperate times call for desperate measures and I believe the Cons are desperate. harper's ego may want a "rematch".
