Final Update: 5:20pm Wednesday.... Dippers win going away by 189...Throne speech throwdown here we go!

Update: 5:30pm Tuesday....Elections BC has revised its numbers....Dippers now up by ROCK-101 in CoCo!...Hard rock data miner guy Chad Skelton figures that 56% of the absentee ballots have been counted with 911 to go
______

From the (pretty much) always reliable Shane Woodford at 4:25 pm Tuesday:

Gosh.

With the Clarkdashians currently up by 0.01% (aka 3 votes) is now a good time to remind everyone that the Green Party candidate took 18% (aka 4,939 votes) in that riding?

Just read a very interesting article in the Tyee re gerrymandering a number of electoral districts in BC by the Libs. One of which is Courtenay-Comox. Apparently, according to the article, Cumberland which was considered a hot-bed of NOT voting BC Lib was removed and placed in a different electorial district. There are other examples as well, but don't know if these changed would significantly changed the election outsome. Also, several northern ridings, that do not meet the threshold of minimum number of eligible voters were kept in tact because they favoured the current party in power. Interesting reading, and sort of/wonder why this info did not surface before the election.

The work of Will McMartin.

Most interesting, indeed.

Constitution challenge anyone? Would think that the BC NDP and greens would be all over this, not to mention elections BC.

I have such a awful feeling Weaver is going to throw in with Christy's crowd. I really hope I'm wrong...

I choose to be more optimistic.

Heckfire...I think the time has come to re-work Phil Ochsified 'Here's To The State Of The Golden Era' to Here's To The Death....

Of.

Same.

I feel optimistic too.

And yes, they gerrymandered my riding too, Juan de Fuca. That didn't work either ;)

I smell napalm in the morning.

Kim--

Indeed it did not.

Work, the gerrymandering I mean.

If my team had ended up a plus five instead of a plus six the napalm would have been on us.

Same thing in Mission. They split the city down the middle and according to Randy Hawes at the time it was because there weren't as many "socialists" in Abbotsford! Well, my side of Mission took the seat away from the lieberal Dalton this time!!!!!

Now that the votes are final Green Weaver will continue his negotiations with Christy for the best deal for him, not the environment. When you look at who the Greens hired to negotiate on their behalf they have said all we will ever need to know about them. Green Weaver and his little leaves, just another form of B.C. Lieberal light with a shabby suit. he can now up grade.

Of course on the bright side Christy may see the end of the road for her and not care and refuse to make a deal with green Weaver. His price is really a tad high. Better to send Big Rich over to talk to Horgan and see what they can work out to get through the first session. (well Christy already has the money to go again, Horgan not so much)

I'm sure there are more than a few dusting off their resumes to run for the leadership if Christy walks. Well its not fun being a cheer leader if no one is following and the old cheer isn't working any more. If she isn't in her hard hat and jeans who is she? those suits never did look good on her. I just can't see her getting all excited about social and environmental issues. the crowds just aren't as much fun as those at the pay to play soirees. Now lets see which member of the caucus has the first pay to play soiree.

Judith Guishon, the Lieutenant Governor, would have a curious dilemma should the Greens and NDP cement a solemn coalition---in effect, a single party---and try to convince Her Honour that their commitment to pass bills into law is underwritten by their now superior numbers of seats, 44 to the BC Liberals' 43; but, as this new coalition, or "party," would be a marriage of convenience, as 't were, made only in the circumstance after both the Greens and NDP had campaigned vigorously against each other, some would say even bitterly, she could, probably would, and probably should recognize the BC Liberals as government, they having won under a longtime common front as thick as thieves, experienced with many a caper under their money-belts, and possessing "nine-tenths of the law." In any case, Madame Guishon is not obliged---just like the Sovereign she represents---to divulge her reasoning to anyone.

How likely is an NDP-Green coalition? Much is made about their supposed similarities, but there's a wishful tone---almost pleading---that overlooks the long-held belief by many dippers that the Greens have always been neo-right shills and/or gleeful vote-splitters in the BC Liberals' favour. Point is that many Greens might be as offended by trucking with the NDP as there are with the BC Liberals---remember Clayoquot?...the seminal hiving-off, treehugger Greens from unionized loggers' NDP?...

Weaver cannot afford to lose any support whatsoever, not from either direction, which is probably why he's going out of his way to contrast his electoral reform policy with the NDP's, even though his ram-it-down-our-throats approach would not favourably recommend pro-rep and, indeed, unfavourably adds to the logical stickiness of his circumstantial balance-of-power and king-maker potential with only 17% of the so-called popular vote. This kind of angling only proves he's no different than either of the other leaders when it comes to serving his own party's interests first. The situation is effectively a dry run of pro-rep which would most often elect hung parliaments, and the results of in-camera negotiations, whatever they are, might affect a disillusioning reality-check for distracted voters hitherto informed only by partisan propaganda.

While Andrew bobs and weaves like an amphetaminized shuttlecock, let us not be decoyed: Christy's crew are the ones with the bloody knife, standing over the body of BC, and are therefore the more likely to do something extraordinary---like, perhaps, acquiescing to a no-referendum pro-rep implementation and/or shitcanning Site-C (it's only a stage-prop for them, anyway, not some kind of wacky-visionary thing), maybe a cabinet seat or two: even if the greens lost two-thirds of their support, they'd still double their seats---or more, depending on how pro-rep would affect NDP support---meaning that the alleged one-third of voters who will always vote "free-enterprise" could, with appreciative Green part support, still beat the socialists. Somebody's staying up late sketching out all the possible scenarios.

But not me.

Weaver is all about Weaver. When he came out with his list of demands, the environment was fourth. Both parties would be stupid to agree to his demands. Can't stand B.C. Lieberals or Clark but she does have the numbers and if she calls the Leg to session and presents a budget, she can roll the dice and sees what happens. It will certainly cut the legs out from under Green Weaver. The other two greens will survive if they stay their own course without joining any group. Weaver so desperately wants to belong and he really really thinks he is the smartest guy in the building.

B.C. has gone down the road of proportional representation before and the voters weren't interested and it won't do much for the B.C. Lieberals or the NDP. They ought to tell Weaver to hit the road for that reason alone.

If Christy can't face the Leg. as the numbers now stand, she ought to resign as leader, she didn't show up all that often as it was and have some one like Coleman take over until a leadership convention was held.

As to the two smartest B.C. Lieberals, they left before the election, Terry Lake and Don MacRae.

Liberals will wait awhile then cause another election, they are the only ones with any money to fight one.
They will wait for the Greens and NDP to show who they really are, they "Gang that Can't get along" as they both go after power not principles.

The last election laid out exactly where the Liberals need to concentrate and they just need to swing a couple of close ridings.

The question is who is their new leader

Pretty much reliable? Well I never....

Shane (assuming that really was THE Mr. Woodford)--

You missed the 'always' part.

Of course, some new numbers did come in after your tweet that afternoon....
