Why Does The Tea Party Hate Biomedical Research So Much?

ShutDownEverything

The above image showed up on the homepages of the lab web browsers this morning.

PubMed and the other NCBI databases really are teh Google (and more) of biomedical research.

The whole shutdown experience does offer a sneak preview of just some of what would be lost if the anti-government forces prevail.

Paul--

Ya, well...

Unless I'm mistaken, even Ayn Rand couldn't do functional genomic analysis in her basement.

Sadly, RossK, I don't think any of those people want anyone to do any functional genomic analysis anywhere. And dammit! Adam and Eve didn't have genes!

karen--

Well...

Even if you could get them to concede that A&E did have a string of DNA or two...

I'm pretty sure they would still insist that JC's chromosomes are completely immaculate.

Or some such thing.

God didn't make it, so they can't control it. Notice the same strain of anti-knowledge with Tea Partiers that characterizes our Dear Leader, for pretty much the same reasons. It's amazing that anything's getting done with the onslaught of ignorance attendant up the advent of Clark/Harper and all the clowns in Congress aux USA. For some, it's too big a leap of knowledge that faith is always in the future while science is now. Keep on sciencing (did I just contribute to the verbification of the Englsih language? Oh, rats!).

Thanks Danneau, but...

Why aren't all Randites atheists given the utterings of their Dear Ayn?

I think that's like the various interpretations of the Bible, or most any work, for that matter: selective reading, picking and choosing the citations that match one's wildest desires and the heck with the rest. Also, it appears from my little lair that an awful lot of what these people call religion has little to do with the profession of faith, except when that faith is written in dollar signs.

Great points Danneau.

Thanks.

" Dear Ayn"

I think the diminutive, affectionate form is Dear Aynus!
