Mount Polley Disaster ctd...How Big The Spill?

InThisCaseSizeDoes

Well...

Damien Gillis over at the Commen Sense Canadian, using the company's own revised numbers reckons it's almost twice as big as originally estimated.

Compared with earlier estimates of 10 million cubic metres of water and 4.5 million cubic metres of solid tailings, the company is now figuring the following:

-Supernatant water 10.6Mm3

-Tailings Slurry: tailings solids 7.3Mm3; interstitial water 6.5Mm3

-Construction materials 0.6Mm3

So.

If wishes were horses, heavy metals would be snowflakes.

Or some such thing.

What is really galling is that these new "estimates" went unannounced, they appear to just have been slipped into the info posted on the companies website (as if these were the figures all along or something.) Kinda makes you think there's some jiggery-pokery going on even if you wanted to believe all of the codswallop that's been coming out to try and minimize this disaster. Given the "new" spill size at roughly 25 million cubic meters of water and slurry, it appears we now have that "world-class" disaster to test the "world-class" spill response in the Premier's 5 conditions for Northern Gateway...if they can't clean up this mess, then there's no way they could handle dilbit.

Harper has this country, corrupt to the rotten core. BC is the most corrupt province in Canada. The Campbell/Clark BC Liberals work for Harper.

Who in their right mind is going to trust Christy Clark and her lying Liberal cabal? Trust Imperial Metals or any samples take by any of them? Not on your Nelly.

Dead pigs come floating down China's polluted rivers. Their rivers stink so bad, people gag.

Are we going to have dead animals floating down our polluted rivers? I read, the pollution can leach out, for up to 60 years.

Don't ever drink that water, nor use it for anything. They can trust Damien or Alexandra Morten, to do the testing. The rest of them? Never.

well if this is how the b.c. lieberals deal with "spills" I can hardly wait for a tar/bitamen spill in the ocean on through a broken pipe. this is going to be some slimy place to live, not that it isn't right now. don't know which slime is going to be harder to wash off.

To bad the tailings turned out to be just crushed granite with nothing toxic in them, it would have been better if they were really toxic...then we would have really had something!
